Glenn D. Lannoye

Glenn Durwood Lannoye of Devils Lake, ND and formerly of Churchs Ferry, passed away on Saturday, Nov 4th at CHI – St. Alexius Devils Lake Hospital. Born at home on September 4, 1931 in rural Dry Lake Township, Glenn was the son of Constant (George) and Lilly Severson Lannoye. Glenn was baptized on October 18, 1931 and confirmed on July 22, 1945 at Chain Lake Lutheran Church by Reverend Buslee. He grew up on the family farm in Dry Lake Township, Penn, ND attending elementary school and 2 years of high school in Churchs Ferry. Glenn graduated from Central High School in Devils Lake in 1949.  He was active in basketball, track, FFA, and was a class officer.  He attended NDSU in the Ag Program and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Glenn married Donna Stebleton on October 5, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egeland, ND.  As a young boy he helped on the threshing crew as well as with all other farming duties. These early responsibilities led to a love of the land and a lifetime career of farming. Glenn and Donna spent the first few winters of married life on the west coast where he worked for both Lockheed Martin Aircraft Service Co in Riverside, CA and for Boeing in Seattle, WA. He worked on the first production B-52 bomber as a wing riveter.  Pres. Eisenhower attended the “roll out” of this historic event at the Boeing facility in Washington. An active community member, Glenn served on the Ramsey County Water Board, the Board of Directors for Farmers Co-op Association, the Ramsey County School Redistricting Board, St. Peter’s Elders Board, and Dry Lake Township Board. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Antique Automobile Club of America – Lake Region Chapter, and was a lifetime member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.  Antique cars were his passion and his favorite car was his 1924 Buick Roadster that won the AACA National 1st Place Senior Award in 1987. He also participated in the Devils Run Classic Car Show for many years including the 25th Anniversary Event in 2017.  He liked to attend all types of sporting events especially those of his grandchildren and his Alma Mater.  Glenn was involved in the Senior Curling League at the Lake Region Curling Club.  In his later years, woodworking also became a favorite hobby.  He enjoyed turning lathe work and gave away many unique ornaments and vases.  Glenn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna; daughter Elonda Nord of Devils Lake, and son Byron (Terri) of Bismarck, ND. Grandchildren are Stephanie Shock (Mike), Nicole Nord, Tyler Lannoye (fiancé Erika Kenner), and Grant (Shana) Lannoye.
