Gordon W. Tostenson

Gordon W. Tostenson, 80 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at CHI, St. Alexius, Devils Lake Hospital. 

Funeral Services for Gordon will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Jim Paulson officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. 

Gathering of family and friends will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, January 11^th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Friday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. 

Gordon Wesley, son of Carl and Amelia (Christianson) Tostenson was born on July 29, 1937 at Leeds, ND where he grew up and attended the Leeds School. Gordon and his brother Orville were hard workers and worked many different jobs to help support the family. 

Gordon was united in marriage to Shirley J. Malmedal on September 24, 1957 at Rugby, ND. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. 

Gordon worked as one of the station manager’s for Tom’s Texaco for many years. He was employed with Mayo Construction for several years working the area road construction projects.  After retiring he was a rural mail carrier. 

In his younger years, Gordon enjoyed camping and boating and his passion for fishing was life-long. He never missed a chance at a good game of cards and good conversation with friends and neighbors.  He also enjoyed membership in the Eagles Lodge. 

Gordon was always and forever the devoted husband, loving Dad and grandpa, dear friend and neighbor.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; daughter Kathy and her husband Jeff Eback of Minneapolis, MN; granddaughters Tara (Ryan) LeClair and Tonia (Brent) Rice all of Blaine, MN; great grandchildren Lily LeClair and Mason Rice; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Karen Tostenson, Alaska, Carol Stubbs, Omaha, NE and Marvin and Diane Malmedal, Underwood, ND; many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry on October 27, 2017; brother Orville Tostenson and in-laws Fred and Verda Malmedal.

Urn Bearers will be Clayton McCloud, Darcy Robinson and Don Sowatzki. Honorary Bearers will be all of Gordon’s many dear friends and neighbors.
