Gregory G. HolyBull, “Tā Te O Kinyan” (Flying Wind) 53 of Minnewaukan, ND formerly of Mobridge, South Dakota passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018, rural Sheyenne, ND.

The Wake for Greg will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Fort Totten Recreation Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday from City Plaza.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. and he will then be taken to Mobridge, South Dakota for services there with Oster Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gregory Giles, son of Martin and Agatha Rose HolyBull was born on March 28, 1965 at Mobridge, South Dakota and was an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Nation. He grew up in the Mobridge area and graduated from Helena High School with the class of 1982.  He continued his education at UND, Grand Forks, earning a degree in the Arts and later earning his Master’s Degree.  He also attended United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck and was a certified mechanic. 

Greg worked a variety of formal jobs but was first and foremost a self-employed artist. He created many beautiful paintings, stained glass projects, bead work and other artistic creations. He was a singer with several drum groups, served as a Spiritual Leader and Medicine Man. He participated at many pow-wows, Sundances and Sweats.

Greg was a humble, gentle, kind man with a strong faith and belief in the Great Spirit, his Creator and Mother Earth. He always wanted his words to provide peace, comfort and hope to the people. He was very proud of his Traditional ways and again used the words of his Native Language to teach others the Traditional way of life.  He knew he would make the journey to the Great Spirit one day, and looked forward to being together with his family who had gone onto the Sprit World before him.

Greg’s loving family include his children Randolph Lee HolyBull, Tara Rose HolyBull, Gerimiah (Jessie SpottedTail) HolyBull and Tyson HolyBull; grandchildren Lovelee HolyBull, Tye Henry HolyBull, Tessa Hold the Enemy, Easton HolyBull, Elaina HolyBull, Nataleigh Lynn Littleghost and Letty HolyBull; sisters Virginia Dolly HolyBull and Freda HolyBull Condon; brothers Gary HolyBull Sr. and Joe Circle Bear; adopted brothers and sisters Francis Punchy Charging Cloud, David West, Gary Buckley, LeRoy Landreaux, Roy Bison, Kevin Finley, Valerie Charging Eagle, Stephanie Charging Eagle and Geraldine (Harold) Condon; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He joins in the Spirit World his parents; sisters Ruby Cadotte, Mary Good Eagle, Beverly Howard, Teddi Six Killer; brothers Terry St. John and Bundy Littlewind and many other beloved relatives.

Pallbearers for Greg will be Dion Jackson, Darrel ThreeIrons Sr., Ivan Lovejoy, Randolph Lee HolyBull, Brooks GoodBird, Chris White, Rueben CrowFeather, Dion Jackson and Opie Day.  Honorary Bearers are John Eagle, Tyson Merrick and Wanbli ChargingEagle.  All Drum Groups and Singers are welcome to share their songs in memory of Greg. Pastor Kevin Finley and Reverend Larry Thiele will officiate at the services.
