Gregory Lyle Mindt

Gregory L. Mindt, 34 of Fargo formerly of the Spirit Lake Nation passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Vibra Health in Fargo, ND with loving family at his side.

Gregory Lyle MIndt, son of Kevin Mindt and Bernadine Tikanye was born on June 29, 1985 at Devils Lake, ND. He grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation and in Bismarck, ND.  He attended Four Winds, Bismarck Public School and also the Quentin Burdick Job Corp.  He worked hard and earned his GED. 

Greg’s talents as a chef were enjoyed by many when he worked at DiDonna’s Italian Restaurant, McDonald’s in Bismarck and Old Broadway in Fargo.  He also worked several temporary jobs while living in Fargo.  Increasing health problems had forced Greg to retire these last few months. 

Greg was an avid sports fan. He loved to watch and play basketball, but his favorite TV channel was ESPN and he watched whatever sport was being played; golf, basketball, baseball, football, soccer anything.  For a break from sports, Greg would watch TV sitcoms, comedy shows, anything that would make him laugh.  That was Greg’s personality.  He loved to make people laugh, smile, be happy.  He had a great sense of humor and knew the right words to lift your spirits.  He always tried to put others before himself.  He did that by creating gourmet meals to share with family and friends, telling jokes, teasing his family.  You knew Greg was near when you heard “Hey Cuz” or “Indian”.  How he treasured his family and especially spending time with his nephews and nieces. 

Greg had a heart of gold. He cared about his family, his friends and even strangers.  He was always there to lend a helping hand. 

Greg is survived by his loving family. His Dad, Kevin Mindt; foster parents Ron and Janet Flick; sisters Mary Mindt, Christine Mindt, Amanda Mindt and Mariah Mindt; eight nieces and nephews Priseis, Hailie, Patience, Kenneth Jr. and Henley GoodHouse, Shakira Alberts, Devereaux Herman and Nevaeh Nierson; grandpa Aloysius “Fishy” McKay; special cousin Jodee Touche; aunts and uncles Bruce Mindt, Mark Mindt, Kelly Minor, Kim Arttus, Jodi Arttus and Maggie Chaske, Maynard Tikanye, Randy Tikanye, Duane Tikanye, Poncho Tikanye, Dephine Tikanye, Yvonne Georgeson and Beverly Tikanye; great aunts, great uncles, many cousins and dear friends. 

He was preceded in death by his mother Bernadine; grandparents Rosemary (Greywind) McKay, Francis Tikanye, Elizabeth Walker and Delores Yankton; great grandparents Helen and Jim Walker; great uncle Vixie Walker; great aunt Maxine Walker; nieces and nephews and best friends Mark Shaw and Brent Touche.

The Wake for Greg will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the Tokio Wellness Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and sharing at 8:00 p.m. The procession to Tokio will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday from City Plaza. 

Funeral Services for Greg will be held on Monday, July 15^th at 10:00 a.m. at the Tokio Wellness Center with burial in the Bdecan Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Tokio, ND.
