Hilda Pearl Garcia (Pahatawin) was born August 4, 1945. She went to meet God on July 3, 2021 at age 75.
Hilda was born in Wagner, South Dakota when her father Archie Redfox Sr. was the Lay Pastor to the Hill, Greenwood, and Cedar Presbyterian Churches on the Yankton Reservation. Her mother was Gertrude Crow, great granddaughter of Scarlet Raven, one of the signers of the Sisseton-Wahpeton and Cut Head Treaty of 1867. Her father Archie was the great grandson of Thunder Face, Chief of the Five Family Band of Southern Sissetons.
Hilda attended elementary school in Tokio, and high school at Maddock North Dakota. She worked her whole life; a diagnosis of Addison's Diseas didn't slow her down. Her first job was a Candy Striper at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, Pre-School Helper, Hog-Ringer at Sioux Manufacturing Corporation, and finally retiring last year from the Tribal Health Department, Fort Totten, North Dakota.
HIlda Married Louis Garcia, November 12, 1972 at Crookston, Minnesota. They had one son Robert John Redfox. Hilda raised many nephews, nieces, and grandchildren: Randy and Delphine Tikanye, Amy Redfox, Mary Tollefson, Nicole Longie, Michael Meade, Spring Medad, Jolene and June Littlewind, Tyson Redfox, Chandler and Chloe Redfox.
Hilda was an excellent cook, starting with just basic ingredients, garden produce and berries she canned. She was a seamstress and traditional regalia crafter, an expert bead worker, hide tanner, moccasin and Parfleche maker.
Hilda was an Elder in the Bdecan Presbyterian Church at Tokio, founded in 1879, preaching at the pulpit when there was not a minister available. She helped at the soup kitchen, food pantry, clothes closet and in church fund raising, especially for the youth.
Hilda is survived by her husband, sisters Sharon (Albin) Georgeson and Alberta Redfox, and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Pallbearer are: Monte Redfox, Troy Redfox, Adrian Jackson, Cleveland (CJ) Ironheart, Ira Woodhull, Matthew Georgeson, Antoine LaVallie V, Hunter Lufkins, Christian Ironroad, and Nicolas Jetty.
