Irma Laura (Schumacher) Morlock, 90, passed away on March 7, 2025, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, under the compassionate care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Born on October 15, 1934 in rural Egeland, North Dakota, Irma grew up with a strong sense of resilience and faith. She graduated from Egeland High School and carried her determination into every aspect of her life. In her younger years, she dedicated herself to farm life as a hardworking wife, mother and partner. Later, she applied her skills to sewing and fabricating at D.T.I, where her meticulous craftsmanship was evident in everything she did.
Irma was known for being strong-willed, direct to the point, and unwavering in her faith. She read her duct-taped Bible daily, attended church regularly, and found comfort in watching Main Street Living broadcasts. Her devotion to family was evident in the time she spent with loved ones-whether playing cards, tending to her garden, sewing or fussing over what meal to prepare next.
She is survived by her brother Harvey (Mary) Schumacher; sister-in-law Mavis Blake; daughter Marlys Klemisch; Clint (Lynae) Klemisch; Jesse Klemisch; daughter Beverly (Michael) Loff; Carmen Loff (fiancé Robert O’Halloran); Chistopher (Christine) Loff; Angela (Jeremy) Schmaltz; Jennifer (Austin) Luehring; son Lyle (Joni) Morlock; Michael (Allie) Gowan; Megan (Andrew) Happel; daughter Connie (Terence) Schmidt; Kayla (Jordan) Morman; Kasey Schmidt; Kelsie Schmidt (Nate Fries); son Greg Morlock; Ryan Morlock; Riley Morlock; Reid Morlock; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents John & Bertha (Schoenborn) Schumacher; husband Elmer Morlock; daughter-in-law Teresa Morlock; brother Alvin Schumacher; and sisters Alvina Martinson, Lenora Helgeson, Rena Clouse, Isabelle Morlock, Edna Andrick, Florene Nielson, and Ella Timian.
A visitation will be held on March 13, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on March 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. The service will also be live streamed at www.facebook.com/AIZLCMS for those unable to attend in person.
Memorial contributions will be directed to Egeland Union Cemetery at 7360 85th Street NE, Egeland, ND 58331 in honor of Irma’s memory.
Her strong will, sharp tongue, shrewd card playing ability, and steadfast love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Urn Bearers will be Irma's Grandsons: Clint Klemisch, Jesse Klemisch, Christopher Loff, Michael Gowan, Kasey Schmidt, Ryan Morlock, Riley Morlock, Reid Morlock. Music will be provided by Irma's grandchildren.
