Irvin Lee KillsPlenty Sr. “Mato” (Bear) 66 of Fort Totten, ND began his journey to the Spirit World on Monday, February 17, 2020 at his home in the presence of his loving family.
The Wake for Irvin will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Fort Totten Wellness Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, February 28th at 10:00 a.m. also at the Wellness Center with Father Charles Leute OP officiating. Irvin will be laid to rest in the spring at St. Jerome’s Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. The Ivan Lovejoy Sr. Drum Group and any other Drum Groups are welcome to share their songs in memory of Irvin.
Irvin Lee KillsPlenty began his walk on earth on January 23, 1954 at Rosebud, South Dakota, the son of Hamilton KillsPlenty and Mathida (Wells) KillsPlenty. He grew up and was educated in Rosebud, making Rosebud his home until he enrolled at the United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck.
This is where Irvin met Bernice M. BigTrack and they were united in marriage on January 23, 1976. They made their home in Fort Totten where they lived, worked and raised their family. Irvin worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Little Hoop Head Start for several years. He also worked DTI, Sioux Manufacturing, and in maintenance at the Fort Totten Group Home and most recently at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort.
Irvin enjoyed spending time at the Casino and BINGO, visiting with friends and family. He always enjoyed a game of cards and especially enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.
Irvin is survived by his loving family. His children Lea and Freeman KillsPlenty, Lisa and Melvin Peoples Jr., Ervinetta and Kevin Blueshield, Irvin KillsPlenty Jr. and Heather Snow; grandchildren Willanetta Akiro, Irvin, Jalen, Melvine, Irvin Wade and Phillip KillsPlenty, Silas and Juneau Longie; great grandchildren Kyramae, Kyle Jr., Kyzar, Lily Faye and Averil; godchildren Rani Howard, Cameron Howard, Jesse A. McKay and Jesse James McKay and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Bernice on October 18, 2001.
