Janice R. Krokum (Wilkinsin)

Janice R. (Wilkinsin) Krokum, 79 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the Eventide Devils Lake Care Center.

Funeral Services for Janice will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Jim Paulson officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.  Burial will be in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural Devils Lake at a later date.
Janice Ruth, daughter of Cecil and Cecelia (Weed) Wilkinsin was born on March 21, 1940 in Devils Lake.  She would live her entire life in the Lake Region area. She attended school in Devils Lake and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1958.

Janice was united in marriage to Laurence G. Krokum on February 8, 1964. They made their home in Grand Harbor Township where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. Laurence died on May 8, 1992.  Janice continued to live on the farm for a time, then in 1998 moved to Grand Forks to be closer to her daughter. Janice wanted to be back to her original roots and returned to Devils Lake in 2012, living with her son Steve until 2017 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Center.

While living on the farm, Janice was never idle. She raised chickens and always had a huge garden that she spent many hours tending. She shared the produce with family and friends and also many times produced enough to sell to others.  She managed the Davis Motel for many years and also was employed at the Davis Tavern and Austin Davis Store.

Janice enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and there was nothing better than a bowl of ice cream for a treat. She cared deeply for her family and special friends.

Janice is survived by her children Steve Krokum of Devils Lake and Valerie Gores-Krokum of East Grand Forks, MN and sister-in-law Fran Wilkinsin and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Laurence, son-in-law Earl Gores, sisters Marcia Wilkinsin, Julie Kvalstad and a sister in infancy, and twin brother James Wilkinsin and brother Gary Wilkinsin.
