Jeanette E. Olson, 82 of Devils Lake formerly of Churchs Ferry ND passed away on Wednesday, may 18, 2022 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Jeanette Elizabeth, daughter of Arthur and Ethel (Pethick) Haugen was born on May 29, 1939 at Cando ND. She attended school in Churchs Ferry and Leeds, North Dakota. Jeanette continued her education at Devils Lake Junior College and graduated with a Degree in Education from Minot State Teacher’s College. Jeanette’s first teaching job was in Columbus, North Dakota. She also taught at Minot Air Force Base and in the Minot Public School System. Jeanette was united in marriage to Arvid Olson on July 29, 1967 at Vincent Methodist Church in Minot, ND. They eventually moved to Billings, Montana where both Jeanette and Arvid worked at a Catholic High School. They moved to Devils Lake in January of 1972 and were the proud parents of a daughter Lesli, who was born in the summer of 1972. While living in Devils Lake, Jeanette worked in the Clerk of Court office and later at Himle Plumbing. Arvid died on June 6, 1998. Jeanette and Lesli continued to call Devils Lake home. Jeanette loved to read; she read all kinds of materials; books, newspapers, scripture and more. She also enjoyed reading and writing poetry and was a life-time member of the International Society of Poets. Jeanette was baptized into the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Devils Lake and also attended services at the Methodist Church with family. Jeanette treasured her daughter and family and spending time with them. She will be greatly missed. Jeanette is survived by her daughter Lesli Olson; siblings Glenn (Shirley) Haugen, Valley City ND, Janice Bottenhagen, Billings, MT, Don (DeEtt) Haugen, York, ND and Karen Pretzer, Minot ND; sister-in-law Marlys Haugen, Fargo ND; many nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arvid; brothers William (Lena) Haugen, Robert (O’Detta) Haugen; sister Marjorie (Duane) Bye. Family and Friends will gather at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. There will be a prayer and playing of Jeanette’s favorite songs and then a procession to the Devils Lake Cemetery.
