Jeffrey Scott Lovseth was born April 2, 1954 in Hendricks, MN to Arlo and Vangie (Johnson) Lovseth. Jeff graduated from Astoria, SD in 1972. He received an Associates Degree in Accounting from Canby Area Vocational Technical College in Canby, MN in 1973.
As a bookkeeper and accountant, Jeff’s career involved working for several grain companies including Oahe Grain Corporation, Onida from 1973 to 1974, Castlewood Farmers Elevator from 1974 to 1977 and the Hoople Farmers Grain from 1977 to 1979. Then in 1979 he began employment as an auditor for the ADM/Benson Quinn Company. Jeff was proud to work for ADM/Benson Quinn for 40 years and appreciated all of the managers, directors, farmers and bookkeepers he worked with over his career.
Jeff married Kathy Melland on April 1, 1978. Many people made jokes about getting married on April Fools Day. They moved to Devils Lake in June of 1978 where they raised two sons, Jonathan and Barry. Oh how Jeff loved being a hockey and football Dad and watching them participate in all their activities. Jeff was a proud grandpa too. He enjoyed teasing the grandchildren and knew that the teasing would be returned in double back to him.
Jeff loved driving around town on Friday night in one of his red sports cars. He did have to make a stop at the Dairy Queen for Kathy to get a treat quite often.
He also loved fishing and enjoyed time on the lake with his family and friends. There was always a little competition involved with who got the biggest fish or who had the best rod and reel.
Jeff is survived by his wife Kathy Lovseth; son Jonathan (Laura) Lovseth of Marion, IA; son Barry (Amy) Lovseth of Marion, IA; grandchildren Wesley, Kara, Erik, Julia, Emily, Madelyn; brother Larry (Mary) Lovseth, Grand Forks, ND; sister Debbie (Duane) Bickett, Chaska, MN; sister Julie (Bill) Hefner, Coleridge, NE; brothers-in-law Owen (Ruth) Melland, Hoople, ND, Jason (Jami) Melland, Drayton, ND; step-parents-in-law Gail (Dave) Peil also of Drayton, Paul Owen, Luverne, ND; nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Jeff is preceded in death by parents Arlo and Vangie Lovseth; mother-in-law Shirley Owen; father-in-law Orlan Melland.
