Jerry Peters

5/3/41 – 4/4/18

Joseph M. Peters “Jerry” was born in Devils Lake, ND on May 3, 1941 and passed away surrounded by his loved ones on April 4th, 2018 in Omaha, NE.

Jerry was the youngest of 5 children to Joseph Peters and Walberga (Hennicker) Peters.  He attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated in 1960 from St. Mary’s Academy.  He was active in sports, and enjoyed being in the boy scouts in his youth.

He met his wife Marilyn and they were married in 1963.  April 13th would have been a celebration of their 55th wedding anniversary.  During his life, Jerry was involved in several organizations.  He was active in Jaycees, President of the Lake Region Skating Club, and was a lifetime Elks member.

He started a career that would last nearly 50 years in the clothing business at Glickson’s Men’s Clothing store.  Eventually he became store Manager.  In 1994, Jerry made a decision to start his own men’s clothing store “Jerry’s Wearhouse”.  It remained part of the Devils Lake business community for 10 years.  Jerry retired from full time work in 2004 when he sold the building to enjoy retirement.

In his retirement years, he spent a lot of time at home, with his family, walking his dog, traveling, and becoming an accomplished chef.  He spent summers in Omaha and California running around to sporting events, and doing things with his grandchildren.

Jerry had a love of the Lake Region and the outdoors.  He enjoyed the lake, boating, and especially hunting and fishing with family and friends.  Although he hunted ducks and geese, he enjoyed fishing the most.  He loved animals and always commented that with hunting “you can’t throw them back”.

Jerry enjoyed building and home improvement projects.  He built dressers, shelves, cabinets, decks and his largest project was adding a family room, where everyone gathers and spends time together.

Jerry was a wonderful man with a big heart.  He cherished his family and friends.  He demonstrated kindness to everyone and helped those who were not as fortunate as he was.  He religiously donated blood, and ultimately gave over 20 gallons of blood during his lifetime, undoubtedly helping countless numbers of people.  Over the years, he supported and donated to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

Jerry is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Jarrod Peters and fiancée Alichia Mack, daughter Dana Barber and husband Alan Barber, and his grandchildren Jayson Peters, Victoria Peters, Ashley Barber and Alicia Barber.  He is also survived by his sister Patricia Warburton, sister-in-law Shirley Peters and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jim and Konrad Peters, and sister Everyl MacDonald.

Jerry Peters will be missed and remembered by all those who knew him.
