John R. Finneseth

John Roman “Jackie” Finneseth, 75 of Munich, ND passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for John will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Munich, ND with Father Mathew Pamplaniyil celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Munich. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. led by the Knights of Columbus.  Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.  John R. Finneseth was born March 18, 1942 to Adolph and Gertrude (Worms) Finneseth in Munich, ND. He attended Munich Public School and also worked for several area farmers.  John moved to Omaha, NE and worked in the Campbell’s Factory.  He returned to Munich and became a meat cutter and worked at the Munich Locker Plant until he entered the United States Army on May 9, 1965. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and because of his meat cutting background remained stateside at Fort Leonard Wood.  He was honorably discharged on August 10, 1970 for honest and faithful service with the rank of Specialist 4.  After his discharge, John returned to the family farm at Munich and started raising chickens in a little coop at the farm and kept adding more and more chickens and built a building big enough to house 20,000 chickens at one time, hence the birth of John’s Poultry Farm. The first poultry barn was destroyed by fire and John started all over again and eventually had 30,000 chickens. John delivered eggs to many of the towns in the area for many, many years.  At a young age, John enjoyed hunting and trapshooting. He was able to purchase a sporting rifle from the Rod and Gun Club at Fort Leonard Wood for hunting while in the Army. He won many awards for his trapshooting expertise and was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association.  John was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus.  John is survived by his loving family. His brother Robert ”Bob” Finneseth of Grand Forks, ND; sisters Jean Wills of Detroit Lakes, MN and Shirley Kitsch of Webster, ND; sister-in-law Marilyn Finneseth, Northfield, MN and nineteen nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Palmer “Pinky” Finneseth and Ted Finneseth; sisters Lorraine Morley and Marian Rott; brothers-in-law Harold Morley, Jim Wills, Darwin Rott and Jim Kitsch.
