John A. McLaurin

John Allan McLaurin, 73 of Devils Lake passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. 

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery. 

John Allan, son of John F. and Eleanor “Pam” (Joslyn) McLaurin was born on December 17, 1950, in Langdon, North Dakota. He was raised in Milton, North Dakota, attended Milton Public School and graduated from Milton High School with the class of 1968. 

After graduation, John moved to Devils Lake and began a 34-year career with Riggin Motors. When they closed, he was employed with Firestone Tires for 8 years, retiring in 2015. 

John was united in marriage to his dear Carol Iverson on May 17, 1972, at the First United Methodist Church in Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked, and raised their family through the years. Carol died on March 20, 2014. 

John was always supportive of Carol’s love of the outdoors and horses. John’s priority was family. He was always the supportive fan of his children and grandkids in all their activities. Any chance he could he was there watching and encouraging them in all their endeavors. 

John’s demeaner was quiet, but his love, his pride and joy for his family was loud and proud. John will be always missed, always loved, never forgotten. 

John is survived by his three precious children and nine grandchildren John McLaurin and his wife Laura of Devils Lake, and children Kiya, Gabrielle, Emily and Alexander: Travis McLaurin and his wife Jill of Fargo, North Dakota and children Taylor and Keaton: Missy and her husband Travis Abrahamson of Devils Lake and children Brina (Logan) Schuh and great grandchild Laikyn Carol Schuh, Braden and Ashlyn: sister Bonny Frith, Fargo, ND; brothers Jim McLaurin, Devils Lake and Jesse (Michelle) McLaurin of Queen Creek, Arizona and several nieces, nephews and their families. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, parents John and Eleanor, stepfather James “Bud” McLaurin, grandparents, mother-in-law and father-in-law Eula and Roderick Iverson, niece Tammy Geller, nephew Dustin Iverson,  sister-in-law Karlene McLaurin.

Pallbearers will be Jim McLaurin, Jesse McLaurin, Steve Heilman, Brian Hoffmeyer, Gort Myklebust and Terry Forde. 

Memorials may be directed to the John and Carol McLaurin Memorial Endowment at Lake Region State College in memory of John.
