Joseph A. Krumwiede, 78 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at his home, rural Devils Lake ND.
Joseph “Joe” Allen Krumwiede was born November 24th, 1941, the son of William O. and Ellen (Roberts) Krumwiede in Minot, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Velva. He grew up on the farm near Voltaire and attended Voltaire Grade School and graduated from Velva High School in 1960.
Joe enlisted in the US Marine Corps June 1960 and was honorably discharged June 1964. He then served in the Army National Guard for twenty years. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad and Basin Electric Power Plant in Voltaire for several years and then attended Lake Region Junior College, receiving an Associates of Arts Degree in drafting. He was employed by Sioux Manufacturing Co. for nearly 20 years. He worked for a time at Soper Construction and later worked year round for Becker Farms.
He married Jeanette “Jeanie” Decoteau on June 30, 1972 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in rural Belcourt ND. Jeanie passed away February 5, 1999.
Joe was an avid NRA member and very knowledgeable about guns. He had several faithful canine companions through the years and now enjoyed the company of Trigger and Paisley.
Joe was a humble, simple man who loved his Lord, served his country with honor and treasured his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his daughter Jessica Weigel and grandchildren Sabrina, Madison, Allan
and Mary Elizabeth Weigel; brother Bill (Jackie) Krumwiede of Voltaire; sisters Jean (friend Jan) Krumwiede of Minot and Mary Ann (Dean) Peterschick of Surrey, ND; special friends Jason and Elise Swanson and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Jeanie, parents, and brother James Krumwiede.
Funeral Services for Joe will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake ND with burial in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at rural Mandan at a later date. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31st from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
