June Alberta Chapman Tweeten passed away peacefully February 26, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Home in Devils Lake, ND.
June was born to William and Mabel Chapman on June 25, 1922 near Trochu, Alberta, Canada while they worked at a logging camp. Soon after the family moved to Kalispell, MT and by age 3 they moved again to farm near Minnewaukan, ND where they welcomed a brother, Thomas. In 1939 the family resided in Devils Lake and June became a member of Central High Class of ’41.
While working at NW Bell, she was able to keep a watchful ear out for a young man, Duane Tweeten, getting re-acquainted with the community after the war. June married Dewey August 30, 1946 in Devils Lake, where they made their life-long home and members of St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church.
June continued working at NW Bell for 19 years until the office closed, then was the business secretary at LRJC for 15 years. She completed her career after a number of years at the Ramsey Housing Authority.
June and Dewey were blessed to raise son Michael (Jane Konzak) of Pocatello, ID; their daughter Janet returned to Devils Lake after her career in Grand Forks to lovingly care for them, and after Dewey passed January 2015, she was a constant companion to June. June was able to live independently until a year ago when she moved to the Odd Fellows, then most recently to Good Samaritan.
Her grandchildren Jennifer (Dirk) Redfern, Hailey, ID and Sara Tweeten, Boise ID and great-grandchild Caitlyn loved to hear her adventurous stories of growing up in the “old days”. June kept a great sense of humor and wit, and enjoyed company with many life-long friends. She is now in company of her husband Dewey, parents Mabel and Bill, and brother Tom. Other surviving family include her sister-in-law Sally Chapman and brother-in-law Mel Richards.
Funeral Services for June will be held on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, ND with Reverend Jim Paulson officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
