Karen Johnson was born on March 17, 1950 at Rugby, ND the daughter of Oscar and Margaret (Moen) Johnson. She grew up in Pleasant Lake, ND and attended school in Devils Lake. Karen graduated from Devils Lake Central High School with the class of 1968.
After graduating, Karen began a life-long career as an Insurance Agent. She worked at various agencies in Devils Lake including Ford Insurance and retiring in 2015 from the American Insurance Agency.
Karen was united in marriage to Ronald Lang on April 3, 1970. They established their home in Devils Lake and she lived, worked and raised their family here.
Karen loved her job. She enjoyed meeting new people, making new friends. She was on-call 24 hours, 7 days a week for her clients. She was always there to answer a question, she was reliable, efficient and knew the insurance business inside and out. Because she was a people person, after retiring she worked part-time at WalMart.
Karen was all about family. She loved to travel, camping, fishing anything that would bring family together and any vacation that took her to a warmer climate. An ocean cruise was the best vacation ever. Karen didn’t shy away from adventure either. She swam with the dolphins and with sting rays in Grand Cayman, rock climbing in Aruba and visited Graceland. She was the “hostess with the mostest” for all family events, holidays, special occasions, cooking up a storm of everyone’s favorite dishes.
Her family meant the world to her. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved them unconditionally.
Karen is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ron; son Travis and his wife Rachel Lang of Omaha, NE; daughter Crystal and her husband Travis Duncan of Devils Lake; grandchildren Evan and Ian Lang, Tyler and Haley Duncan; many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law Paul and Mary Lang.
