Kimberly (Locker) Helten, 51, of Devils Lake ND passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020.
Kimberly Sue, daughter of Leo and Sue Ann (Martwick) Locker was born on August 13, 1968 at Minot ND. The family lived for a short time in Velva and Fargo, then moved to Devils Lake where Kim attended St. Joseph Academy and graduated from Devils Lake High School with the class of 1986. She continued her education at Lake Region Junior College and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Minot State College.
Before leaving for college, Kim worked in the Bakery Department at Leever’s County Market and as fate would have it, a handsome stranger, Jerome Helten would have the great pleasure of meeting Kim when doing repair work on the bread slicer machine. It took a year before dating ensued, but as love evolved and grew and after a marriage proposal, they were united as one on July 10, 1993 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They established their home in the Lake Region, surrounded by family and friends.
Kim began her career in Social Work at Heartland Care Center, later worked at Lake Region Human Services Center as an Ombudsman and at the time of her death was the Adult Protective Care Coordinator, a position she held for many years.
No matter what Kim was a part of, she gave her whole heart, her whole being, her total time and talent to it. From her job, to her beloved pets, Rosie and Billy, to all of her hobbies and interests. She loved the outdoors, walking, gardening, tending beautiful flowers beds, tending to the lawn and trees, canoeing, motorcycling, including many motorcycle trips throughout the state. She never shied away from physical labor including being a part of the total remodeling outside and inside of their home. She and Jerome enjoyed several trips overseas including trips to England, Ireland, and a trip that included tours of 8 countries, France, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, England, and Amsterdam. They also enjoyed vacationing in Mexico.
Anyone who knew Kim knew how she loved Christmas. Her decorations were so beautiful and her Christmas trees should have been on a Hallmark card. She was a North Dakota girl, loved North Dakota living, and had no desire to live anywhere else. She collected snowman so she had a spot for one in much of her décor.
Kim loved, Kim lived, Kim fought for justice for all with passion, determination, with such a beautiful spirit and with such a loving heart.
Kim is survived by her loving family including her beloved husband Jerome; parents Leo and Sue Ann Locker, Devils Lake; mother-in-law Marge Helten also of Devils Lake; sisters Debra (Richard) Spencer, Cambridge England and Michal Locker (Rick Torres), Westin CT; in-laws Darlene Helten-Borgerson, Brinsmade ND and Merlin (Darcy) Helten, Devils Lake; nephews and nieces Adam Spencer, Jenny Dion, Seth Eisenzimmer; Britt (Eliza), Macie, and Brennen Helten; great nephew and great nieces Tyler, Kylie, Braelynn Snortland, and Jolie Dion and; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her twin daughters Arabella and Araminta; father-in-law Harold Helten and her grandparents.
