Lanny Gulseth

Lanny Curtis William Gulseth, 72, a lifelong resident of Devils Lake, North Dakota, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the farm he cared for his entire life. Born on August 19, 1952, to Harold and Louise (Belford) Gulseth, he was a devoted husband to Sheree and a loving father to Kyle and Wendy and grandfather to Keegan and Gabe. In his early years, he attended a small country school in Morris Township and completed high school at Devils Lake Central. Although he left the farm to attend one year at the University of North Dakota; he returned home due to his father’s failing health and farming became his career.

Lanny was extremely hard-working and dedicated as a 4th generation farmer where he was known for his ability to fix anything, which often included the use of duct tape. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family. He was his kids and grandkids greatest supporter. He would do anything for his family.

He was a quiet humble man who did not like being the center of attention although his support was felt by all those around him. He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was also known for his love of animals. The family jokingly referred to the farm as the “Gulseth home for wayward animals” as many a stray cat and dog found a home there. His daily routine started with feeding the birds and deer. He enjoyed riding his Honda motorcycle, ice fishing with Grandpa Babe, gardening, and keeping up his yard. He was not one for idle hands and was often tinkering in the basement, garage, or yard with one project or another.

He will be sorely missed by his wife of 48 years Sheree, children Wendy (Josh Burdick) and Kyle (Sara) along with his grandkids Keegan Myhre and Gabriel Hamren, siblings Karen Schepp, Clare Warby, Jim Gulseth, Gordy (Kathy) Gulseth, brother-in-law Steve (Robin) Kunkel, and sisters-in-law Sue (Michael) Yanis, and Deb Kunkel along with many nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death by parents Harold and Louise Gulseth and mother and father-in-law Julie and Melvin Kunkel, siblings Jerry Gulseth, Rita Gulseth, and Jane Perry and brothers-in-law Scott Kunkel and Jerry Schepp.

A celebration of life will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Jude’s, https://www.stjude.org/ or Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue, https://www.cocosheartdogrescue.org/

His family and friends find comfort in knowing that Lanny's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
