Laurie D. Henschel

Laurie D. Henschel, 65, of Bismarck, formerly of Devils Lake, ND peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 18th, 2022 .

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake on June 1st, 2022 at 11am.

Laurie was born on January 9th, 1957 at Grand Forks ND, the daughter of Lawrence (Larry) and Delphine Larson. Laurie attended school in East Grand Forks and then Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake Central High School in 1975.

Laurie was united in marriage to Terry Henschel on February 11th, 1977 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. Laurie was a long time and loyal employee at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake starting as a Dietary Aide at 16, then as a CNA until she earned her LPN. She worked on the med-surg floor, ICU, and Obstetrics units at Mercy Hospital. Laurie moved to Bismarck in 2006 and continued to work as a labor and delivery nurse until officially retiring for medical reasons in 2019.

Laurie was an amazing woman. She was smart, strong, and courageous through all of life’s obstacles and remained positive through every challenge she faced. She was a beloved nurse and cherished taking care of “her babies” and the moms who were her patients. She took pride in being a well-trained and knowledgeable nurse, who many new nurses looked up to and learned from at St. Alexius where she last worked.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her life’s joy was spending time with her daughter, Sarah, and only grandson, Easton. Together they tried new foods, cooked, baked, and watched a lot of movies. Laurie enjoyed gardening and spending time outside, boating on the lake or river, and catching rays in the summer months. She loved to travel and go on vacations with her sister, Rhonda, and often dreamed of moving somewhere that was warm year-round. Laurie also enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts.

Laurie was so loved and will be greatly missed by her friends and family including her daughter Sarah Murchie (Nick), Colorado, her sisters Robin (Roger) Mertens, Devils Lake and Rhonda (Ross) Juntunen also of Bismarck; Many nieces and nephews; grandson Easton Murchie.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence (d. 2018) and Delphine Larson (d. 2020), and former husband Terry (d. 2000).
