LaVonne Tabor, age 83, died peacefully on January 27, 2018 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born on March 15, 1934 in Devils Lake, the daughter of Alfred and Ruth Everson. She married Allen Tabor and they raised their children at Camp Grafton located south of Devils Lake.
LaVonne was known for her work ethic, great sense of humor and her loyalty to her friends. She worked at the Devils Lake Dairy Queen for several years, then spent over thirty years at Leevers Super Value working at, and eventually managing, the lunch counter, better known as the “deli”. Often providing an alternate to lunch at the high school, the deli was a popular hangout for high school students where LaVonne was fondly known as “Tootsie” or “Lovey”. She used her genuine laughter and caring nature to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for her “customers”. One of her proudest possessions was her service ring from Leevers. She also loved bowling and attending state bowling tournaments with her friends.
LaVonne was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren have fond memories of jelly beans, ice cream bar treats and Saturday matinées. She was at every basketball game, every first birthday party (with a miniature birthday cake for the little one) and every graduation. Her pride was clearly obvious by the “picture books” she carried in her purse as she often bragged about her “little ones.”
She was the middle sister of ten children, and is survived by her sisters Norine Myhre of Connecticut, Connie (Jerry) Schall of Mesa, AZ and her brother Robert (Darlene) of Cedar Rapids, IA.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Gladys Butler, Darlene Christopherson and Shirley Sperley, her brothers, Marvin Everson, Joseph Everson, and infant brother Alfred Everson.
She will be missed by her four children Sandi and Steve - Bismarck, Jay (Janell) – Devils Lake, and Lee Ann (Terry) Johnston - Devils Lake, her grandchildren – Ali (Cody) Kuehne, Tia (Josh) Fazekas, Ashley (LJ) Trottier, Tory Johnston and Jared Tabor, and her great grandchildren – Bailey Tabor and Que and Presley Trottier.
LaVonne’s family would like to thank the staff at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for their kindness and dedication to caring for Mom over the last four years. She was a special lady and considered many of you as her friends.
Those who would like to honor LaVonne’s memory with a memorial gift may donate to the Devils Lake Public Schools Development Fund, 1601 College Drive North, Devils Lake, ND
Funeral Services for LaVonne will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lyle Belleque officiating.
