Leah B. Tofsrud, 90 of Devils Lake formerly of Churchs Ferry, ND passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018 at her home in the loving care of her family, friends and Altru Hospice.
Funeral Services for Leah will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake with Reverend Robert Buechler officiating. Burial will be in the Antiochia Cemetery, rural Churchs Ferry, ND.
Gathering of family and friends on Friday, June 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home.
Leah B. was born at the family home near Rock Lake, ND on December 16, 1927 to Esau and Bessie (Fleming) Belt. She attended the Belle School in Egeland and later the Lohnes School, near Warwick. The family moved to a farm in the Warwick, ND area, lived there until the death of her mother in 1940. They moved to Devils Lake and she worked at the lunch counter in the Red Owl Store and later at the Seven Ten Taxi taking calls. She also worked at the Sweet Shop.
Leah met her husband Henry through her sister Jean and his brother Pete. They were married on July 12, 1946 and made their home on the Tofsrud homestead near Churchs Ferry.
The couple had four children, David, Sandra, Robert “Bob” and Marcie. After their sons finished school and left home, she worked with Henry on the farm, where she also had a huge garden, did many different crafts, which she would sell at craft fairs. She also baked and decorated cakes, crocheted, sewed, and painted.
She was an active member of the Antiochia Church. After the church closed, she joined Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan.
Henry passed away December 11, 1986 and she moved to Leeds, ND in 1991. In June 2011 she moved to Devils Lake until her death.
Leah is survived by her daughter Marcie (Curtis) Broden of Leeds, ND; sons David Tofsrud of Palisade, CO and Robert (Nancy) Tofsrud of Clifton, CO; sister-in-law Marilyn Belt of California; nine grandchildren Tiffany and Justin Broden, LeAnn Tofsrud, Michelle (Andy) Pierce, Aaron, Brandon and Christina Tofsrud, Dawn Mosolf Atkinson and Quint (Maggie) DeWitte; step grandchildren Tracy (Ira) Carte and Kelley (Josh) Ward; nine great grandchildren Brianna, Wilder, Gigi, Asher, Dakota, Calvin, Seth, Abigail and Cecilia and step great grandchildren Gunner and Shiloh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esau and Bessie; husband Henry; daughter, Sandra Tofsrud Mosolf; granddaughter, Tanya Broden; infant sister Alvina Mae; sisters Faye Waldorf and Jean Tofsrud; brothers Lloyd, Kenneth and Russell Belt and a wonderful friend Faira Sens.
