Leo A. Hoffart

Leo A. Hoffart was born on October 22, 1927, and passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake om his 97th birthday.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service for Leo will be on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home with burial in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. 

Leo Anton Hoffart, was born in Knox, North Dakota the son of Anton and Teresa (Klein) Hoffart. He attended country school in the Knox area and later at Southam, North Dakota. He worked for several area farmers before he went to work at Lakeview Dairy. 

Leo was a dedicated, hard-working, one of the most dependable employees at Lakeview Dairy for over 45 years. He gave his all to his employers every day. 

Leo was united in marriage to Doris Zettler on October 25, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked, and raised their family through the years. Doris died on September 8, 2020, just before they were able to celebrate 69 years of marriage. 

Leo loved the outdoors and farm life. He enjoyed attending threshing shows in the area. In retirement you found him out walking whenever he could. The family considered him a quiet man, but when he was out walking, he would strike up a conversation with anyone he would meet. 

Leo worked hard his whole life to support his family. He felt so blessed to have the love and support of his family over these last years, especially after the passing of Doris. 

Leo will be missed and was so loved by his family which includes his children Robert Hoffert (June Kraft), Arlene (Roy) Johnson all of Devils Lake ND; son-in-law and daughter-in-law Greg Berg, Devils Lake and Lisa Hoffart, Savage, MN; grandchildren Cara (Perry) Golden and Cory (Magdalene) Hoffart: Melissa (Tylon) Eken, Brandy (Jason) Duberowski and Dustin Berg: Marcy Hoffart and Brad (Jennifer) Hoffart: Lance Johnson and Kendall (Lacey) Johnson; fourteen great grandchildren; siblings Dennis (Marion) Hoffart, Grand Forks ND, Rosella “Sally” Olson, Devils Lake, Jerome (Mary) Hoffart, also Devils Lake; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Kenneth Sime, Minot ND, Nadene Hoffart, Grand Forks, Phyllis Ebach, Devil Lake and Janice Keller, Harvey ND; many dear nieces, nephews and their families. 

He was reunited with his wife Doris, parents, son Mark Hoffart, daughter Karen Berg, siblings Leonard (Mary) Hoffart, Eleanor Sime, Irene Wilhelmi, Richard Hoffart and Delores Hoffart, in-laws Harold Olson, Richard Zettler, Benjamin and Myrtle Zettler.
