Leopold Volk was born on March 12, 1934 to Christine Volk at Towner ND and was lovingly raised by his mother and step father Bill Weisbeck. At the age of 16, the family moved to Devils Lake and Leo called it home until his death.
Leo was united in marriage to Mary E. Bachmeier on August 16, 1954. They lived, worked and raised their family in Devils Lake. Leo worked at Porter Brothers for many years, retiring in 1996. He wanted to keep busy, so Leo worked for several years at the Pizza Ranch.
Leo’s life was all about his faith and his family. He read his Bible daily and tried to live the life of a good Christian husband, Dad and grandpa. He loved to fish, and would take the whole neighborhood, a pickup load of kids out to the lake fishing every chance he could. He was a life-long Packer fan and had many canine pets at his side through the years. He always kept a well-manicured lawn and yard. Leo loved to talk and could make friends with anybody. He had the gift of gab and talked off many an ear!
Leo was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also enjoyed membership in the IOOF.
Leo’s loving family include his wife Mary of 65 plus years; children James Volk, Devils Lake, Betty (Daniel) Eversvik, Starkweather ND, Ron (Kathy) Volk, Valley City ND, Joyce (Werner) Rummer, Larry (Rebecca) Volk and Dale Volk all of Devils Lake; son-in-law James Kienast Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; half-sister Dorothy Weigel, Devils Lake and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Christine and step father Bill; daughter Shirley Kienast; grandson Jason Volk and step brother Peter Weisbeck.
