Linda D. Schwols passed away at her home in Devils Lake, ND on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 76. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon with a graveside service also on Friday at 2.30 p.m. at the Leeds Cemetery, rural Leeds.
Linda Diane, daughter of Wallace “Wally” and Donna (Burton) Schwols was born on March 10, 1947 at Breckenridge, MN. She spent several of her early childhood years in Fargo, ND with the family, also some time in Lidgerwood, and Devils Lake ND.
Linda believed in the importance of education and worked hard to obtain her GED at Wahpeton High School the same time her daughter graduated from Fairmont High School. Linda pursued a higher education at Minot State College, focusing on early childhood education, Head Start and daycare management. While going to school in Minot, Linda worked for the Red Cross and REM. After moving to Devils Lake she continued employment with REM until retiring in 2007.
Linda married Joseph Henry Sandberg in December of 1966. They established their home in Wahpeton, ND and later moved to Fairmont ND. After their divorce, Linda spent most of her years in Devils Lake. Along with her time at REM, Linda previously worked as a waitress at Country Kitchen in Devils Lake. She also worked at Wahpeton Canvas sewing semi tarps. She worked other places to help support her family.
Linda faced many challenges, trials, and tribulations in her life, but she never let those things defeat her. She was such a wonderful hostess to family, friends, and the neighbors. Anytime someone moved into the neighborhood, she was the first to greet them and bring them a treat. She always overcooked, and overbaked for any holidays or special family events. She could feed the army. Her go-to favorite and specialty food was her “Yummy Bars”. Along with baking she also enjoyed sewing. She always shared any of her creations with family and friends.
Animals held a special place in Linda's heart, and their companionship brought her immense joy. Despite physical limitations later in life, she was determined to overcome any obstacles that prevented her from traveling alongside family and her dear sister. Together they explored destinations such as Mexico, the Bahamas, Cozumel, and Mahogany Bay.
When not embarking on adventures or pursuing her creative endeavors, Linda enjoyed fishing trips and indulging in "special shopping." Additionally, she actively participated as a member of the Rebekkah's Lodge.
Linda leaves behind cherished memories with her dear children Janice (Joel) Carlson of Devils Lake, Janette Diane (Chad) Everson of Boise, Idaho, and Billyjoe Henry (Tara) Sandberg of Killeen, Texas. Her legacy extends to her adoring grandchildren Justinjoe Lee (Amanda) Sandberg-Wieser, Kevin James Carlson (Sydney Shepherd), Devon Gerhardt Carlson, Eric Everson (Laura Beltran), Connor Carlson, Austin Sandberg, two step-grandsons, and great-grandchildren Jamison, Avajo, Addison, and Josie.
Linda's memory will forever be treasured by her beloved siblings Carol Ann (Merle) Johanson of Fairmont ND, Rita (Bruce) Wirth of Munich ND, Patty Jabs of Florida, Charles (Kathy) Schwols of Bismarck ND, David Schwols of Minot ND, and Carla (Greg) Ballew of Oklahoma. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and their families who were near and dear to her heart.
Preceding Linda in eternal peace, she joins her parents, grandson Zachary Sandberg, sister Lynn Rekkedahl, brothers-in-law Gary Rekkedahl, and Dwight Jabs.
