Lloyd E. Albrecht

Lloyd Everett Albrecht, 94 of Alsen, ND, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, in the loving care of his family. Lloyd was born on August 3, 1923, at Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. At a young age, he was adopted by Jake and Mollie Albrecht of Alsen, ND, where he attended school. He was married to Hilda Roppel of Alsen on November 14, 1950, and they were married for almost 60 years. She preceded him in death on July 29, 2010.  They had three children: son, Bruce Albrecht, of Munich, ND, and daughters Doreen (Rod) Hoffman, also of Munich, and Cindy (Darrin) McDougall, of Blackfoot, Idaho: six grandchildren Melissa Hoffman, Kristeen (Cale) Monson, Karleen (Evan) Estenson, Tyler Hoffman, Logan (Lisa) McDougall, Ashley (Eric) Grubaugh, and eleven great grandchildren: Dalton, Lance and Brianna Hoffman; Alexis, Jaelyn and Jacob Monson; Josie and Zachary Estenson; Addie and Cameron McDougall, and Averie Grubaugh. Lloyd farmed his whole life. Shortly after marriage, Lloyd worked in Hoople, ND, in a potato warehouse and did custom harvesting with his brother-in-law, Clarence Roppel.  He also worked in the Alsen Farmers Elevator for approximately 15 years.  He was a very hard worker, as there always was work to do.  For many years, he had a herd of milk cows and sold milk to Knetter Cheese in Lakota, ND.  The talents and fine qualities of Lloyd were many, but everything in Lloyd’s life was to the glory of God. He had a tremendous, unwavering faith that was with him through the good and the bad times.  His family meant the world to him, and nothing brought a brighter smile than when a child would climb up and sit on his lap.  He was also a dedicated member and custodian of the Swiss Mennonite Church for many years.  God’s creation of the earth was very important to Lloyd; nature, the outdoors, and the soil brought him great joy. He spent many hours gardening, mowing and tending the lawn, camping and fishing, woodworking and carpentry, and driving around the countryside.  He was able to “fix anything” that needed fixing, even building the cabinets in their home.  He was an avid reader and kept up with current events reading the newspapers front to back.  But for Lloyd, current events were years of history.  He knew dates, times, places, and even the weather conditions of many events that took place years ago.  He was the family “Wikipedia”.   At the age of 85 years old, Lloyd met his half-sisters for the first time and enjoyed this union as brother and sisters do. Lloyd is survived by his sisters Virginia Toews, Billings, MT, Valborg Johnson, Stanley, ND, and Marlys Hanson, Minot, ND; brother Bill Putnam as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Gladys Reinisch. Funeral Services for Lloyd will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Swiss Mennonite Church in Alsen with Reverend Norm Economy officiating. Burial will be in the Alsen Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Devils Lake on Sunday, September 17th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.   Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.Casket Bearers for Lloyd will be Logan McDougall, Tyler Hoffman, Dalton Hoffman, Cale Monson, Evan Estenson and Eric Grubaugh.
