Lois J. Reardon, 91, formerly of Webster, ND, passed away in the early morning hours of June 9, 2022, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.
Lois Jean, the daughter of Joseph and Mildred Scully, was born on December 14, 1930, in Valley City, ND. She attended grade and high school in Valley City and graduated from Valley City High School in 1948. Lois entered Mercy School of Nursing in Valley City, ND. Upon graduation in June 1951, she began her nursing career at the old General Hospital in Devils Lake as head nurse in surgery. General Hospital soon closed, so she began at Mercy Hospital in 1952 as an OB nurse where she assisted in numerous baby deliveries in the region for over 40 years. Lois retired on December 14, 1995. During her retirement she continued to work at the Mercy Hospital Gift Shop. In April 1996 she moved to Grand Forks where she enjoyed quilting and crafting, as well as following many of her grandchildren’s events.
Lois married Milton “Butch” Reardon on July 21, 1953, and they farmed and worked together to raise and instill a strong work ethic and the value of being successful contributing members to society in nine children near Webster, ND. Not only did they farm the land, but they also raised many animals that kept the family fed, including milk cows.
Lois truly was the epitome of a servant to others. She lovingly helped many women in their beginning stages of motherhood. Lois worked hard her entire life. She worked full time as a nurse, yet somehow found a way to grow an exceptionally large garden; canning and preserving to feed her large family, preparing, and bringing hot meals to the field, making sure we came home from school to hot buns, bread, and caramel rolls. She also was well known for donuts. She also made every effort to attend her children’s athletic and academic activities. Lois sewed, quilted, knitted, and crocheted, and every member of the family has a quilt and afghan to remain wrapped in her love. Her moral values, love of family and work ethic she instilled in her children will be her legacy.
Lois leaves behind her 9 children, Lynn (Jim) Cooley, Grand Forks, ND, Thomas (Vickie), Prior Lake, MN, Kathleen (Mike) Tweed, Tolna, ND, Pat (Kimberly), East Grand Forks, MN, Debra (Dean) Anderson, Grand Forks, ND, Ronald, Bethel, Alaska, John (Laura), Meridian, ID, Diane (John) Martinson, Edmore, ND, and Chad (Heather), Grand Forks, ND; her sisters Margaret Heise, Valley City, ND and Judy Manley, Grand Forks, ND; and 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; her parents; her brothers, Arthur, and Patrick.
