Madelyn Mae (Wirth) Hoffmann, age 95, passed away September 29, 2019 at Larimore Good Samaritan Center her home for the past fourteen months. Madelyn was formally of Munich, ND and Grand Forks, ND.
Madelyn Wirth was born February 10, 1924 in Munich, ND to Michael and Martha (Janowski) Wirth.
Madelyn graduated from Munich High School in 1943. While growing up, she enjoyed the company and shenanigans of 11 brothers and sisters.
She married the love of her life, Michael I. Hoffmann, on September 6, 1943. Michael and Madelyn made their home in Munich, ND and raised two children, Dale and Maureen. In her early years Madelyn was a popular cook at the Munich School and also cleaned houses.
While in Munich, Madelyn was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church serving as a member of the Altar Society and Christian Mothers. Madelyn enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and crossword puzzles. She was a wonderful cook and her specialties included homemade caramel rolls, ice cream, and lasagna. She loved to play cards and spend time with family and friends. Michael and Madelyn were avid Munich Magician fans and spent many hours attending high school basketball and baseball games.
In 2004, Michael and Madelyn moved to Parkwood Place in Grand Forks, ND. Madelyn lost her husband of 62 years in 2006. Madelyn continued to enjoy the companionship at Parkwood Place and spent countless hours doing puzzles with her neighbors. In 2018 Madelyn moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore, ND. Madelyn always loved visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Madelyn will be missed by her daughter, Maureen (Gary) Mork of Petersburg, ND and daughter-in-law, MaryBeth Hoffmann of Grand Forks, ND, her grandchildren Rayanne Hoffmann, Ryan (Cheryl) Hoffmann, Ronda (Jamie) Ness, Aaron (Nicole Kirby) Mork, Tracy Mork, Ashley (Tom) Demers, Susan (Josh) Dahl, Margaret (Dusty) Whiteside; sisters Geraldine Tholkes, Martha Rose Henderson, and Lois Dawley; sisters-in-law Mary Frances Becker, Agnes (Joe) Hanigan, and Sister Philip Zimmer; and brother-in-law Eugene (Sharon) Zimmer. Her smiles and sweet birthday cards will also be missed by her 20 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Madelyn was preceded in death by her husband Michael, son Dale, parents Michael and Martha, brothers Victor (Esther) Wirth, Lester (Leona) Wirth, Norman (Nora) Wirth; sisters Loretta (Alphonse) Hiltner, Frances Wirth, Beatrice (Edwin) Houghton, Valery (Harold) Hudson; brothers-in-law Vincent Dawley, David Henderson, Joseph Tholkes, Marcel Mathieu, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family of Madelyn Hoffmann would like to thank the staff of Parkwood Place and Larimore Good Samaritan Center for the years of caring for her.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 2, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence O’ Toole Catholic Church in Michigan, ND. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Munich, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.
