Marcella Anne“Marcy” Sackenreuter, 74, Devils Lake, N.D., passed Monday, May 14, in Altru Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., with a time of remembrance and sharing at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, at Gilbertson Funeral Home in Devils Lake. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. The Rev. Jim Paulson will officiate. Burial will be in Devils Lake Cemetery.
Marcy, daughter of William and Bertha (Hejlik) Kiviniemi was born on April 10th, 1944 at Lawton, ND. Marcy was reared and educated in the Lawton area. While attending Lawton Public School, she enjoyed basketball, softball, choir, and socializing with friends.
On May 8, 1964, Marcy was united in marriage to Neal R. Sackenreuter of Lawton, ND. They would eventually move to Devils Lake where they remained until their passing. Marcy spent time raising their children, gardening, sewing, providing daycare for family and friends, and having the girls over for coffee, cigarettes, and visiting.
When her children were of school age, Marcy was employed by a variety of businesses in the Devils Lake area, most notably, Lake Region State College, Good Samaritan, and the Fireside Inn. After Neal passed, Marcy would return to childcare, opening a home daycare for the community. She loved children and taking part in their early development.
After retiring, Marcy continued to love socializing with people, attending concerts, traveling with family, and playing a variety of card games with guys and girls at the apartment.
Marcy will be missed dearly by family and friends who knew and loved her. She was truly one of the nicest people around.
Marcy’s loving family includes her children, Bill (Julie) Sackenreuter of Devils Lake, Kevin Sackenreuter of Fargo, Annette (Chris) Thompson of West Fargo, Angie (Bill) DeWall of Devils Lake, and Allan (Jaclene) Sackenreuter, Richmond VA; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, Neal’s sister Kay (Tony) Alkofer of Grand Forks, many nieces and nephews and their families, and her sister, Delores Paech of Devils Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal; dad, William; mother, Bertha Kiviniemi Donahue; step dad, Harry Donahue and brothers, Edwin, Charles and Erwin; Neal’s parents, Louis and Leona; Neal’s sisters and spouses, Jackie (Ben) Pesek, Arla (Ken) Arnold, and Donna (Albert) Sigette.
Pall Bearers will be Marcy’s grandsons. Reading the Scriptures will be done by Marcy’s granddaughters. Music will be provided by Jamie Travers and Doris Michels.
