Marcella M. Schuler

Marcella Mary Schuler, 101 of Fargo formerly of Calio, Munich and Devils Lake, ND passed away at Rosewood on Broadway Care Center, Fargo, ND. Marcella Mary, oldest of seven children of Nick and Theresa (Guck) Helten was born on October 2, 1915 at Calio, ND. She grew up and was educated in country schools in Trier Township and also in Waubun, MN.  As a young adult she helped on the family farm and also worked as a hired girl to several area farm families. On November 27, 1933, Marcella married the neighbor boy, Werner Schuler who grew up just over a mile from the Helten farm at Calio. They began their married life at a farm NW of Munich, but just a few years later moved to a farm south of Calio.  They began their family and continued farming.  In 1950 they purchased the farm they would call home, farming side by side, ranching and rearing their children there for the next 25 years.  Marcella was the devoted wife and mother, milking cows, raising chickens and pigs and tending a large garden.  She saw so many changes in farm life through her many years.  Along with the farm, they would join in partnership with friends and purchase the Calio Bar, again working side by side in the business, retiring in 1975.  They moved to Munich in the spring of 1975 and Werner died on December 20, 1975. Marcella moved to Devils Lake in October of 1976 and lived a good life there until April of 2009 when she moved to Fargo. Again, she felt so blessed to be close to children and grandchildren. Marcella’s priority was always her family. She treasured their visits, attended all the special events in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.  She was such a talented seamstress and excelled in other needlework projects.  She made dresses, coats, drapes, did alterations for family and friends. Many, many people were gifted one of her crocheted afghans, or something she had knitted.  Of course, she always made everyone’s favorite meal or treat when they came to visit.  She even dappled in wallpapering, remodeling, just doing whatever needed to be done.  Marcella was an active member of the churches of St. Boniface at Calio, St. Mary’s at Munich and St. Joseph at Devils Lake and their Altar Societies. She participated in several Bible Studies in the community and also enjoyed membership in a Munich Bowling League. Family left to carrying on her legacy of faith and love include her daughter-in-law Sharon Schuler, Devils Lake, children Marlys (Don) Hareland, Fargo, Arlene (Bob) Adahl and James (Carol) Schuler all of Devils Lake and Duane (Pamela) Schuler, Munich, ND; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren Vicki (Wesley) Wood and children Brenda, Scott and Mindy, Alan (Cindy) Schuler, Curtis (Colleen) Schuler and son, Alex, Lori (William) Walsh and daughter Krista; David (Melissa) Hareland and children Kaylynn, MacKenzie and Julia, Tom Hareland, Steven (Autumn) Hareland and children Jocelyn, Payton and Maren; Lisa (Craig) Branby and children Landon and Olivia, Kyle Adahl; Ardell Schuler, Tami Schuler, Tiffany (Jason) Schultz and children Jacob and Nathan, Aaron (Miranda) Schuler and children Bridger and Hadyn; Jeremy (Lisa) Schuler and children Leah, Nathan and Brenna, Andrea Jo (Gary) Ringham and Vicki’s grandchildren and Marcella’s four great great grandchildren Ashton, Wyatt, McKayla and Tanner and many beloved nieces and nephews.
