Maria White , Cante Wast’e Omani Win (Walks with a good heart) passed on to the Spirit World October 28, 2018.
Maria Nicole White was born August 20, 1987 in Devils Lake ND to Lorraine White and the late Lee Fox. She grew up in Fort Totten ND. Maria attended Four Winds Community School from kindergarten to 10th grade. In her younger years Maria was in cheerleading, gifted & talented, and attended the state science fair in Bismarck ND in the 3rd grade. Maria was the oldest of 11 children. She spent most of her time as a child hanging out with all of her girl cousins. In the 8th grade Maria attended Crow Creek boarding school where she graduated.
Maria became a mother at the age of 16 when she became a stay-at-home mom. She loved raising her 7 children more than anything else in the world.
In her early teenage years Maria danced fancy shawl at powwows in the summer. She was a champion fancy dancer taking a place at every powwow. She had many powwow friends and family. Maria was also a sundancer who believed in her traditional ways. Maria loved to travel with her family all over North Dakota and South Dakota.
Maria was a very kind hearted and forgiving person, always making sure people were ok and offering help anywhere it was needed. Anyone who knew her well, knew that she always put other people’s needs before her own.
Maria is survived by: children are Havannah Gates, Omar Gates, Cierra Gates, Trent Gates, Kayani Gates, Tyler Rainbow and Julius Rainbow; siblings are Bryan Hall (Jen), Samantha Fox, Tia Fox (Tye), Thomas Fox, Theodore Fox, Mitchell Fox, Anthony Fox, Terrance Fox, Berdina Fox, Emilio Fox, and Christopher Fox; nephews and nieces are Kingston Fox, Jon Fox, Wambli Hall, Jayden Fox, Aaliyah Fox and Zayvin Fox; grandparents Evangeline White, Winona Fox, Sally Cavanaugh, Flo and Spune Dunn, Fred Longie Sr., George Longie, Birdy Fox, Bernice Longie and Yvonne Longie; aunties – White side- Patricia White, Marsha White, Melissa Greybear, Bonnie White (Jon), Wanda Trottier, Janet White, Delorine Smith; aunties – Fox side- Leanne Fox, LaDonna Fox, Lavonne Alberts, Lenore WhiteLightning, Colleen Alberts, Leola White, Alvina Thompson, Beverly LaBelle, Suzie Fox, Karen Skye; uncles – White side- Valentino White Sr., Kelly Brown, Jerrit Longie; uncles – Fox side- Laidman Fox Jr. Roger Alberts, Tyrell Alberts.

Funeral Services for Maria will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Recreation Center. Maria will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
The Wake for Maria will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. Michael’s Recreation Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday from City Plaza.
