Marilyn J. Johnson, 77, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022, at home under the care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Funeral services for Marilyn will be 4:30 pm, Thursday, September 1 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, with Reverend JoHanna Buchholz officiating. Special music will be provided by pianist Emily Bibow and a string quartet from the Devils Lake Community Orchestra. Pallbearers will be Daniel Janssen, Michael Paulson, Pete Pederson, Bruce Scheie, Steven Scheie, and Richard Pieske. Condolences may be expressed at www.gilbertsonfuneralhome.com

Marilyn Jean Pribbenow was born June 13, 1945, the daughter of Rollo and Elizabeth (Myhre) Pribbenow in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Enderlin, ND, and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1963.

She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo where she earned her nursing diploma in 1966. Just two days after graduating, Marilyn married Dan Johnson on September 3, 1966, in First Lutheran Church in Enderlin.

Marilyn worked at Oakes Community Hospital for two years. When Dan and Marilyn moved to Devils Lake in 1968, Marilyn continued her nursing  career at Lake Region Clinic, which became Altru Clinic Lake Region. She worked at the clinic for 43 years. During her career there, Marilyn was the nurse for Dr. Ernest Gilbertson and then was clinic nursing supervisor. She retired from that position in 2003 and continued to work at the clinic as an infusion nurse on a part-time basis until 2011. 

She enjoyed attending the various events for her children and church activities. Marilyn also loved being a member of the Devils Lake Community Orchestra. She played the flute with the orchestra for over 30 years. Marilyn was active in AAUW and the Esther circle at church. She held her family, God, and church very close to her heart.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dan; son Paul (Arika) Johnson of Grand Forks, ND and Angela “Mimi” (Manuel) Cruz of Austin, TX; four grandchildren: Anders & Espenn Johnson and Javier & Claudia Cruz; a sister, Karen (Bruce) Scheie of Fargo; sister-in-law Marlys (Richard) Pieske of Jamestown; nieces and nephews: Kristin (Erik) Albertson; Steven Scheie and Danielle Scheie.

Included in Dan and Marilyn’s special charities were the Lake Region State College Foundation, Devils Lake Community Orchestra, Hope Center, and Our Savior’s Endowment Fund at Devils Lake Area Foundation. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Marilyn J. Johnson, 77 of Devils Lake ND passed away early Monday morning, August 29, 2022 at her home in the loving care of family.

Funeral Services for Marilyn will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend JoHanna Buchholz officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the Daniel and Marilyn Johnson Scholarship Fund at Lake Region State College, Devils Lake Community Orchestra Foundation or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in memory of Marilyn.
