Marsha Dee Littlewind began her sunrise December 24, 1964 and her final sunset December 18, 2021 to begin her spiritual journey to her place in heaven with the Lord.
Marsha was born to Pius and Mary (Waanatan) Littlewind in Devils Lake, ND. They made their home in the Crow Hill District and Fort Totten District. Marsha’s parents sadly passed away leaving her at a very young age. Marsha moved to New Rockford, ND to be foster cared by the Joanie Ludwig family. There she attended school up to the third grade.
Michael and Pauline Greywater adopted Marsha at the age of 9 and they resided in St. Michael District. Marsha attended Little Flower school and Fort Totten school. Her parents traveled with her to Pow-Wows, rodeos, spiritual gatherings in ND, SD, MT and Canada. She became the baby sister of seven brothers and six sisters.
Marsha loved all kinds of animals her entire life. She was fond of horses, cats and dogs. One day Marsha overheard her mother talking about the stray dogs in the community and they will catch the dogs and take them away. So Marsha gathered six dogs and took them to the Priest’s house and hid with them in the entry way. When the Priest returned home, he found her sleeping with them. Marsha’s animal nurturing was passed on to her children. Now they are raising chickens, roosters, cats, and dogs.
Marsha and the late Kenny Thompson welcomed their first-born Jenny Lynn Thompson and their second born were identical triplets, daughters Mary, Melissa, and Michelle Littlewind. Her parents were diligent in helping Marsha in the up bringing of the children.
Marsha was united in marriage to Rodney Martin in 1988 and they made their home in the St. Michael District. They became the happy adoptive parents to Maylene TwoHearts and they were blessed with three more children, Christian Martin, Keanu Martin, and Blanche Martin.
They raised their eight children and farther along six grandchildren during 27 years together. There were many birthday celebrations, during the holidays lots of family time with hugs and kisses. Family trips to see the Pacific Ocean, Las Vegas and Portland, OR. Marsha and Rodney enjoyed their little get aways by cruising around on Rodney’s motorcycle.
Marsha was employed at Sioux Manufacturing (SMC) and Spirit Lake Casino and Resort in the housekeeping department.
Marsha was a very creative artist. Her beaded native regalia outfits were eye catching, along with her native dolls dressed in beaded outfits. Her Star Quilt making was supurb, cutting each diamond and sewing it uniquely to each blanket and hand quilting each stitch. Her Star Quilts went in every direction and were presented to honor people, welcome newborns, graduations, and to cover many to their final resting place.
Marsha was a beautiful, quiet, humble, bashful lady. With her family, Marsha loved to be joking, teasing and was fun-loving. Because she had such a big, caring heart, she touched many lives and many called her “Mom”. The family will miss her dearly and we will cherish her memories until we meet again. Love you “Mom”, “Grandma”, “Great Grandma”, “Sis”, “Auntie”, “Cousin”, and “Friend”. Marsha you did so much for all of us, we wish we could have done more for you. Now you hug your children and be with them for eternity. Now you could walk all your dogs and peacefully enjoy all your animals in heaven.
