Mary Jo (Josephine) Greywater

Mary Jo “Sweetheart” (Charboneau) Greywater, 81, of Fort Totten, ND made her journey home on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake, ND with her loving family at her side.

The Wake for Mary Jo will be held at the Fort Totten Wellness Center on Thursday, January 18^, 2018 beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  The procession to Fort Totten will leave at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday from City Plaza. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 19^th at 10:00 a.m. at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten with Father Charles Leute, OP celebrating the Mass.  Burial will be in St. Jerome’s Cemetery, Crow Hill in the spring.

Mary Josephine, daughter of Anthony Charboneau and Rose Ann (Baker) Snodgrass was born on August 15, 1936 in Fort Totten, ND. She grew up in the Fort Totten area and attended school at St. Michael’s Catholic School.

She was united in marriage to Andrew “Chuck” Greywater in 1972 and later had their marriage blessed by the Catholic Church on June 7, 1977.

Mary Jo worked at the Good Samaritan Center and Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake and Sioux Manufacturing and other various jobs. Mary Jo and her husband Chuck Greywater operated the café in Fort Totten for a while.  Her passion was taking care of foster children.  Later Chuck and Mary Jo adopted Kenny and Emery.

Mary Jo had various hobbies including wood working, painting, crocheting, gardening but her passion was keeping a beautiful yard. She loved going to the park with her children and grandchildren. She also loved going to bingo and to the casino. Mary Jo loved spending time with her son Emery and also family and friends. She loved family gatherings. She loved to listen to older Country and Christian music.

Mary Jo is survived by her loving family, sons Raymond (Maxine) Buckles, Melvin (Theresa) Knutson, Kenny (Amanda) Greywater and Emery Greywater; daughters Marilyn (Phil) Knutson, Marcella (Pete) Longie, Kim Knutson and Michelle (Gary) Reiger; brothers Anthony, Pat (Mary Ellen), Greg, Richard (Pateene), and Roger Charboneau; sisters Betty St. Clair, Lorna Charboneau, Bernie Charboneau, and Cindy (Tim) Hawk; brothers-in-law Kenneth (Bev) Greywater and Bob Greywater; sister-in-law Ranae (James) Lenior; twenty-six grandchildren, many great grandchildren, special granddaughters Shannon Buckles and Patty Longie; nieces, nephews, cousins and many many more extended family members.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; husband Andrew, son Merlyn “Baby” Knutson; grandson Chad Buckles; great granddaughters Katrina Reardon and Shyra Buckles; great grandsons Allan T. , Timothy Allan and Wayne Chaske Jr.; brothers Robert (Sonny), Timmy, and Steve Charboneau; nephews Marvin St. Claire and Lonnie Charboneau; sister-in-law Lorraine Charboneau.

Mary Jo will be greatly missed and never forgotten. We love you very much. 

Pall Bearers for Mary Jo will be Jay Buckles, Merlyn Knutson III, Shilo Knutson, Anthony “Tony” Longie, Lonnie Charboneau, Roger Charboneau Jr., Anthony Charboneau Jr., Edward Charboneau, Earl Charboneau, and Dwayne Charboneau.
