MaryAnn Senger, the daughter of Michael and Johanna (Schwan) Senger was born on December 14, 1929 in Devils Lake where she would live, work and raise her family for her entire life. She was educated in Creel North Township School. At a young age, she worked the farm at the home place and also worked at “Grandma’s Café” in Devils Lake.

MaryAnn was united in marriage to her sweetheart Timothy Kurtz on January 22, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They established their home in Devils Lake. MaryAnn worked at Mercy Hospital on the Maternity Ward for many years. She would assist with deliveries and caring for the new babies-which was one of her greatest loves. She was in the delivery room for many of her own grandchildren and great nieces and great nephews. She was a member of the “Lady Foresters”, and active in her Altar Society Circle. She also enjoyed membership in the VFW Auxiliary.

MaryAnn and Tim loved to go camping and fishing. They started out in a tent, moved up to a pop-up camper and then a motorhome. They shared 65 beautiful years of love and marriage. Tim died on May 8, 2017.

MaryAnn loved to garden. Her garden consisted of many types of veggies, canning and freezing the produce and also all different types of flowers. She crocheted many afghans, kitchen towels and sewed many quilts, sharing her beautiful creations with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and had a great love for horses even to her final days.

MaryAnn was a wonderful cook, but there were those special goodies that she was famous for including buttermilk chocolate cake, raisin cake, dill and watermelon pickles. She would make a meal and it wouldn’t matter how many people showed up unexpectedly, there was always enough food to eat. When she baked cookies she would bake 60 dozen at a time and freeze them so there would always be baked goods on hand for family and friends.

MaryAnn was a woman of strong faith and treasured her family more than anything in the world. She lived out that faith as a loving, caring, generous person. She was always available to help out her family, extended family and friends. No stranger in need ever left her home without peanut butter sandwiches and a mason jar of kool-aide.

MaryAnn will be greatly missed by her loving family.
