Maxine June Peltier

Maxine June (Littleghost) Peltier, “Peta Igeya Win” (Starts the Fire Woman), 68 of Fort Totten, ND was born to James Littleghost and Eva Longie on January 31, 1949 at Fort Totten, ND. She made her journey to the Spirit World surrounded by loved ones and family at the Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND on January 30, 2018.  Maxine was residing at the Odd Fellows Home in Devils Lake, ND after a lengthy hospital stay and to help in her recovery of surgery and illness. Maxine June lived her younger years on the Spirit Lake Nation attending the area schools. As a young woman, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and lived and worked there through the years.  In the late 1990’s, Maxine’s love for family and desire to be close to them, led her back to the Spirit Lake Nation and the Fort Totten area.  Maxine enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and graphic art coloring. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and be a part of their lives.  Her brother and dear sisters meant the world to her.  She never wanted to miss any family gatherings, they brought her much joy. Maxine is survived by her beautiful daughters Meda (Tom) Cavanaugh, Fort Totten, Mary (Marlon) Wanna-Shaw, South Dakota, Mena Shaw, Fort Totten, Juliane (Waylon) Shaw, Montana and Berdine (Carlos) LittleGhost, Minnesota; her beloved sisters Arlene Lovejoy, Helena Littleghost, Elaine Robertson and Pauline Greywater; brother Leroy Littleghost, South Dakota; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially Drew and Devin Cavanaugh and Preston Shaw. Many nieces, nephews, and other dear family members also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary Waanaton-Littlewind and Melinda Littleghost Thompson; brothers Jerome Waanaton, James Longie, Francis Littleghost, Lawrence Littleghost, Eugene Littleghost and Jordon Littleghost.
