Maynard Jacksen, son of John and Bernice (Thompson) Jacksen was born in Cando, ND on November 28, 1942. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Egeland high school in 1960.

On September 28, 1960, Maynard joined the United States Army proudly serving his country. After his Honorable Discharge he returned to the Egeland area and worked as a mechanic in Cando.

In 1966, Maynard married Linda Nass, in Devils Lake, and they had two children, Jamie and Valerie. Maynard worked at a variety of locations and jobs to provide for his family including Boeing, Melroe/Bobcat, Northwest Salvage Grain and Feed, and as a crane operator at missile sites in the Langdon area to name a few.

After the tragic death of his brother Robert and brother-in-law Eugene Heisler in 1972, Maynard returned to take over the family farm in Egeland. While farming he also owned and operated several businesses.

In 1992, Maynard moved to Egeland, continuing to help on the family farm. He was especially proud of working alongside both his son, Jamie and grandson, Devin. He contributed to his community of Egeland by serving on both the school and economic development boards as well as the fire department. He also served as mayor of Egeland for several years until moving to Devils Lake in 2019 where he lived until his passing.

His passion for fishing eventually led him and his friends to Dutch Harbor, Alaska for several summers. He enjoyed fishing for halibut, always bringing home more than enough for family and friends.

Maynard never met a stranger, forming memorable connections with everyone. He was very appreciative of the Fargo VA, befriending all the staff he met there. He will be sorely missed by all.
