Merranda Jay Ironhawk, 35, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at her home in St. Michael with loving family by her side.

Merranda was the loving daughter of Jeanetta Jackson. She was born on October 28, 1990 in Devils Lakie, ND. She grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation and graduated from Warwick High School with the Class of 2011.

She loved spending time with her family, playing dice games, Bingo, and card games.

She was a loving and caring daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and cousin and dear friend to many.

She worked at St. Michael Head Start as a teacher’s aide, she loved working with the children. She also worked at Four Winds School as a bus monitor and various jobs at the Spirit Lake Casino. Even though she had health issues, she continued her education at Cankdeska Cikana Community College with the help of her tutor, Michael Parker.

She enjoyed driving around with her friends, listening to music and loved collecting plushy pillows.

She will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. We love you Merranda!

Merranda is survived by her dear Mom Jeanetta; Brothers and Sisters Mathias Jackson, Challsey Ironhawk, Shandy Brown, Kyle Ironhawk, and Anthony Ironhawk; Grandmothers Doris Longie, Ester Ironhawk and Diane Jackson; Godparents Elaine Guy and the late Duane Guy; many nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and nephews.

She was welcomed home by her Lord, her brother Vernell Jackson, sisters Lauren Ironhawk and Meryl Ironhawk, aunts Patty Jackson, Sandy Jackson, Wanda Jackson, grandfathers Wilfred Jackson and Ambrose “Buddy” Longie, cousins Wayne Littleghost and Dancia Jackson.

1st Pallbearers: Kyle Ironhawk, Anthony Ironhawk, Shandy Brown, Mathias Jackson, Javon Alberts, and Chaz Ironhawk.

2nd Pallbearers: Ivory Black, Bobbielou Littleghost, Challsey Ironhawk, Jessica “Daubber” Cavanaugh, Raven Whitetail, Carolyn BigTrack, Alissa Baker, and Iris Black.

The Wake for Merranda will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 at St. Michael’s Recreation Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Friday from City Plaza.

The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Recreation Center with Reverend Paul Schuster officiating. Merranda and her brother Vernell will be buried in the spring in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
