Monica Leslie Fassett, 38 of Bismarck, ND passed on to the Spirit World on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck ND with her partner Leonard Young “Jayare” by her side.
The Wake for Monica will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Fort Totten Wellness Center with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake. The funeral service will be on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Fort Totten Wellness Center.
Monica was born in Devils Lake, ND to Sherry St. Pierre and Mark Fassett on September 5, 1986. Monica was raised on the Spirit Lake Nation most of her life until she moved to Fargo 12 years ago. A few months ago, Monica moved to Bismarck, ND.
Monica attended school at the Four Winds Elementary and High School up until she met the father of her children, Jeff Whiteshield Sr. To this relationship 2 children were born. Monica then started working at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort where she worked in several different departments. Soon after that, Monica moved to Fargo where she met the love of her life, Leonard Young, “Jayare” who stayed by her side up until her passing.
Monica’s favorite pastime was playing BINGO with her Mom and her grandmas. She also loved to go on road trips, listening to music and being with her family and friends. Monica will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Monica is survived by loving family: Mother Sherry St. Pierre of Devils Lake; Daughter Marissa (Joel) Whiteshield of Fargo; Sons Jeffery Whiteshield Jr. and Joseph Fassett; Siblings: Brothers Monte Fassett and Payton Fassett, Sisters Maranda St. Pierre Aguilar of Fargo, Leslie Fassett, Virginia Fassett, Hannah Fassett, Precious McKay and Wasté Win Fassett; Special Aunts and Uncles Angela and Murle Richotte, Rob and Carol Greywater and Janelle Fassett; Aunts Adele Thompson, Carrie St. Pierre, Marilyn Gravelle, Judy Kerchen Ko, Eva St. Pierre, and Lynelle Herman Cruz; Uncle Robert St. Pierre; Grandma Shirley Culbertson; Special Cousins Martin “Shorty” Hulst, William “Doogie” Richotte St. Pierre, Murle Richotte Jr., Angel Richotte, Renee SpottedHorse, Krissy Greywater, Amanda Nelson, Crystal St. Pierre, Felicia St. Pierre, and Lashawnda Kenner; many more cousins too many to mention at this difficult time; Many nieces and nephews also survive. Monica loved you all.
Monica was reunited in Heaven with her father Mark L. Fassett, brother Mark A. Fassett Sr., niece Matisha Lynn Fassett, nephew Eli Richotte; uncles Troy Woods Sr., Perry Fassett Sr., Duane McDonald, William Patrick St. Pierre, Walter St. Pierre Jr., grandparents Maternal Marceline St. Pierre, Patricia Shaw, Mary “Linda” Herman, Estelle Hennager; great grandma Flora Boyer Herman Culbertson, grandpas Joseph Herman Sr., Daniel Herman, William Herman Jr., Robert Herman Sr., great grandpas William Herman Sr., Pierre Culbertson, paternal grandparents Diane Woods, Virginia Woods, Mary Louise Simmonson, great grandfathers Nick Woods, Rueben Fassett, grandfathers Allen Fassett, George Fassett, Gilbert Fassett, special cousins Daniel St. Pierre Sr. and Christopher Nelson.
