Patricia “Patty” Knell, 73, tragically passed away on June 17^th, 2022 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks ND.

Patricia’s funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Lori Broschat officiating and music by Joyce Carter. Patricia will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bismarck ND on Friday.

Patty Knell was born on April 17^th, 1949 in Hazen, North Dakota, to Walter and Delores Knell. Patricia was the eldest child, having two brothers, Greg and Mark, and one sister, Gwendolyn. Patty lived with her parents until age 7 before moving to Grafton, ND to attend the Grafton State School where she stayed for seventeen years.  Patty then transferred to San Haven, returning to Grafton State School after fourteen years.  Two years later, Patty entered REM services in Devils Lake, ND.  Devils Lake became her home and where she would remain until her passing.

Patty was a daughter, a sister, and a friend, a beacon of purity to those around her.  Patty was not defined by her disabilities, but rather by her innate ability to brighten the days and lives of those she encountered.  Patty developed close and meaningful relationships with not only the staff who provided support, but her peers as well, developing a special connection with a few housemates.

She enjoyed the limited opportunities to be involved in her community on calm, warm days; preferring the comfort of her warm home during the never-ending cold winter months of North Dakota. Patty always had a smile on her face, especially when engaged in one of her favorite activities; listening to calming music while using her relaxing essential oils.

Patricia is survived by her two brothers, Greg and Mark Knell and several nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Delores and younger sister Gwen Knell.

Her memory will endure through the staff dedicated to providing and assisting Patty with living a pleasant and meaningful life and through all the lives she touched with her captivating smile, innocence and presence.
