Penelope Ann (Hill) Knudson was born on September 10, 1946 and went home to Heaven on September 16, 2024.
There will be a visitation and prayer service on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at St. Michael's Recreation Center beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will end at 8:30 p.m. The Prayer Service will be officiated by Tony McDonald. Funeral Services for Penny will be at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Trudy Dumont officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in memory of Penny.
Penelope married John Knudson on Valentine’s Day in 1972. They farmed and ranched by Fort Totten.
Penny loved horses. In her senior yearbook, Penny stated that she hoped to someday have a Western Store. Penny graduated as Valedictorian of her class of 1964.
Penny achieved her dream when she and John established the Branding Iron in 1977. Penny was very active in the business community. She was the first female member and went on to become the first female president of Kiwanis. She was also a member and president of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and Lake Region Anglers Association.
Penny’s faith helped her through many health crises and was her rock to lean on. John was her best friend and the love of her life. Together they weathered many ups and downs through the years.
Penny was adopted into the Laidman and Winona Fox family and the Ephraim and Mary Hill family.
Penny is survived by her loving and beloved husband John; sisters Lynette Wood, Naomi Roy and Celeste Schroeder; brother Justin (Bergit, Eva and Even) Sobak; sister-in-law Joyce Whitehead; aunt Carol Sampson; nieces and nephews Lisa Wood Schmidt, Brad Wood, Brian Wood, Tim Wood, RaeAnn (Jason) Bowes, Lana (Rob) Raleigh, Shanna (Rob) Stengl, Carrie (Derek) Hawley, Natalie (Aaron) Perls, Nathan Roy, Darren Roy, Lonnie Rotenberger, Ann (Dana) Houck, Maria (Layne) Koch, Laurel (Clem) Schnase, and Bill (Kim) Whitehead; adoptive mother Winona Fox and adopted family member Lenore Longie, Kenny Hill, Janice Roulette, Mylo Hill, Theresa Blacklance, Vicky Hill and Melody Hill; special friends Ken and Jolene Higbee.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer Hill and Alda Sobak, step father Willard Sobak, brothers-in-law Emerson Wood, Luke Roy, Jim Schroeder and Frank Whitehead, nephews Max Roy, David Rotenberger and Brandon Wood, niece Laurie Wood Bischof, adoptive parents Laidman Fox, and Ephraim and Mary Hill, mother-in-law and father-in-law Anne and Bjarne Knudson, special uncles Albert Mellin and Oliver Sampson.
