Rallan J. Beck

Rallan John Beck, age 85, of Munich, ND passed away in the presence of his family, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. He was born July 12th, 1931 in Trier Township west of Munich to John Beck and Gertrude Helten Beck.  Rallan attended and graduated from Munich High School.  He spent one winter in Valley City, ND working at a gas station and delivery service for his brother-in-law, Bob Johnson. Rallan married Eileen Korb July 25th, 1951 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Calio, ND.  They began farming in Trier Township where they lived until building a new farm home in Sievert Township in 1958.  They raised their five children there.  Lori McLean Wirth joined the family in 1973. For several winters Rallan did handiwork with Elmer Mueller of Calio. In 1967 he purchased the Calio Bar along with partners, Edwin Bannach and Werner Schuler.  They built a new building in 1968.  Rallan sold his share 3 years later. Rallan farmed his entire life. First with his father who he said taught him everything he knew, then on his own and eventually with his sons and grandsons.  After building a new home in Munich in 1982 he made the seven mile commute almost daily to work when he could.   Farming was in his heart and on his mind until June 20th, 2017.  He was active on the Calio School Board, on the St. Boniface Catholic Church Council, and on the Boards of several area Co-Ops. He was a member of the Eagles, the Elks, and the Knights of Columbus.  Rallan was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Munich since the closing of St. Boniface. Rallan enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting all 50 states and 5 continents. His work of farming was his pleasure.  He was a basketball player in his day and loved watching sporting events and other activities involving his children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.  He was a great attender of all things family and community.  Rallan is survived by Eileen, his wife of 65 years, of Munich; children Avonne (Steve) Fagerland of Rapid City, SD, Cindy (Richard) Zimmer, Nathan (Lori) Beck, Gary (Lynette) Beck, all of Munich, Lisa (Van) Howatt, of Langdon, ND, Lori (Gary) Wirth, also of Munich; sisters Euphelia Michels of Apple Valley, MN and Pat Beck of Fargo; 30 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
