Rebecca K. Bachmeier

Rebecca K. “Becky” Bachmeier, 51 of Devils Lake formerly of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Thursday morning, September 20, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake in the care and love of her dear family.

Rebecca Kaye, daughter of Michael and Doris (Krogfoss) Bachmeier was born on November 27, 1966 in Tacoma, Washington. The family returned to North Dakota when Rebecca was just an infant and she attended St. Joseph Elementary School and also Warwick Public School. 

Rebecca married Nick Hettwer and they established their home in Munich, ND. The family of Nick, Becky, Michael and Nicky moved to Grand Forks and Becky would call it home for 15 years.  Rebecca worked for several years at the Simonson Truck Stop.

The family soon grew to include Becky, the boys and a little girl Michelle. They continued to live in Grand Forks and for the past five years Becky has lived at Skyview Apartments until her increasing health problems needed more specialized care.

Becky had many struggles in her life, but she always knew she had the love and support of her family. She felt so blessed to be in the care of her family as she battled Merkel Cell carcinoma.  On September 19, 2018, Becky truly felt the blessings of her family and her Lord and Savior as she was confirmed in the Catholic faith by Fr. C.F. Wilhelm, with her son Nick as her sponsor and took as her patron Saint, St. Januarius. 

Rebecca loved to draw, was an avid reader, enjoyed writing and had the most eloquent handwriting. She loved telling stories about growing up in a large family and especially loved the memories of the horses she had as pets and grew up around.  But her pride and joy, the loves of her life were her children and grandchildren.  She so treasured her family. 

Rebecca is survived by her children Michael Hettwer, Bisbee, ND, Nick (Kacy) Hettwer and Michelle Nelson all of Devils Lake; seven grandchildren Vincent, Makaela, Madison and Makynli; Aroura, Zobias and Illyana; parents Mike and Doris Bachmeier, Devils Lake; sisters and brothers Jean (Joe) Bjerke, St. Cloud, MN, John Bachmeier, Devils Lake, Thelma Bachmeier also Devils Lake, Rodney Bachmeier, Omaha, NE, Monica Bachmeier, Minot, ND and Cynthia (Keith) Borgerson, Manville, ND; god daughter Kristina Rice; several aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her sister Michele Danae, brother Joseph, grandparents Charles and Thelma Krogfoss and Milton and Annie Bachmeier.

Funeral Services for Rebecca will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND for family and dear friends. The Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
