Richard Alvin Anderson, one of eight children, was born on October 21, 1925, the son of Arthur and Ella (Strand) Anderson. He was born in Brinsmade, ND where he grew up and attended Brinsmade School.
Richard entered the United States Army Air Corp on March 19, 1946 and proudly served his country during World War II until his honorable discharge on September 18, 1947 with the rank of Corporal. After his discharge he returned to Brinsmade and was united in marriage to his precious Jewel Mavis on December 28, 1959, at Churchs Ferry ND.
They lived, worked, and raised their family on the farm at Brinsmade. Richard worked hard to provide for his family, and this meant several different jobs and sometimes more than one at the same time. He worked at Baker Electric, Johnson Plumbing and Heating for Gordon Johnson and for many years in maintenance at the Leeds Public School. After he retired, he kept very active doing carpenter work with Ken Bischoff.
In 2012, Richard and Jewel moved to Devils Lake and called it home through the years. Jewel died on January 28, 2022, and Richard then called the Odd Fellows his home.
It didn’t matter the season, winter, spring, summer, fall you would find Richard out fishing. He didn’t need a fancy boat to catch fish, just one that stayed afloat. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting with family and friends.
Richard was a faithful member of the Leeds Lutheran Church and enjoyed membership in the Eagles Club.
Richard was blessed with a loving wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was overjoyed when the family gathered to celebrate birthdays, holidays and so many special events together. He never said no to a good conversation, hot cup of coffee and Jewel’s many delicious meals and treats.
Richard honorably served his country, loved his family with his whole heart and believed in the promises of his Lord. He will be truly missed, but never forgotten.
Richard’s loving family include his children Ricky Anderson and Pam (Lyle) Leibfried all of Devils Lake, Wesley (Tammy) Anderson, Warroad MN, and Randy (Annette) Anderson, Aransas Pass, TX; many precious grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Victor Anderson, Leeds ND; sisters Luella Follman also of Leeds and Arlene (Walt) Steen, Marysville WA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Sandy and Ted Nelson, Freemont CA and Marvel L. Mavis, Los Gatos, CA; many nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, dear wife Jewel, grandson Levi Leibfried, brother Russell, sisters Lucille, Helen and Delores, in-laws Everett “Delos” and Lorraine Mavis, one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.
