Richard Lee, son of Albert and Helen (Knudsvig) Bonn was born on February 9, 1941 in Rolette County, near Agate, ND. He was born, reared and educated in Pleasant Lake Township, attending the Pleasant Lake Township Country School through the 8th grade. He worked with his parents on the family farm until he entered the United States Army on December 16, 1959, proudly serving his country during the Korean War in California and Hawaii and was also prepared to serve during the Vietnam War, but was honorably discharge from his reserve duties on December 15, 1965 with the rank of PFC. While stationed in Hawaii, Richard worked with determination and completed his GED.

After discharge, Richard returned to the family farm and began working at Welander’s Equipment in Rolla. Richard was united in marriage to his beloved Carol Stewart on June 16, 1964 and they shared a life of love, laughter, good times, challenges, working side by side raising their 4 children for the next 54 plus years.

Richard and Carol lived on the family farm and Richard worked hard to provide for his family. He worked at Wibe’s Service in Mylo, Agate Oil Company, worked on the Rolette and Towner County Road Crews and for 17 seasons, worked as a bulldozer operator for Hulstrand Construction. When he was semi-retired he worked for Welander’s delivering farm equipment. In 2013, Carol and Richard moved to Devils Lake.

Richard’s passion was farming and ranching and he always had cattle and horses and was a steward of the land. When time permitted, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and whenever he could he was off riding around the countryside with one of his grandchildren, just doing a little sight-seeing.

Richard loved his family, treasured his many dear friends and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Richard’s loving family include his wife Carol; children Lee (Janet) Bonn, Fargo, ND, Allen (Lorrie) Bonn, Devils Lake and Katherine (Jason) Ayres, New Jersey; grandchildren Blake, Brennan (Erin) and Madison Bonn and Dalton, Cole and Aaron Bonn; siblings Frances Lang, Grand Forks, ND, Philip (Jean) Bonn, Rolla, ND, Kenny Bonn, Minnewaukan, ND and Donna Gerald, Bisbee and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son James Bonn; sister Beverly Anderson; brothers Albert Bonn Jr. and Paul Bonn.

Casket Bearers for Richard will be his grandchildren and music will be congregational hymns accompanied by Lori Kurtti, pianist.
