The family moved to the Devils Lake area when Roger was very young. Roger attended grade school in Fort Totten and Tokio and graduated from Warwick High School with the class of 1963. After high school, Roger served with the North Dakota Army National Guard. Roger was united in marriage to Ann “Amy” M. Kuk on February 6, 1968 at the Tokio Lutheran Church. They established their home in the St. Michael area where they lived, ranched, raised their family until the rising waters of Devils Lake forced them to move to Doyon ND in 2004. Roger and Amy managed the Pool Hall in Devils Lake for several years, along with raising cattle and horses and all the daily chores that go along with that venture. Eventually, Roger started a 20 plus year career in road construction. He worked for several companies and retired in 1991 due to an injury. Most of his years were spent with MAYO Construction and at the time of retirement had worked as the manager of the plant for several years. Roger loved the outdoors. You would often see him “tinkering” with old tractors and cars. He enjoyed collecting antiques and the fun of going to auction sales and meeting old friend and making new ones. He loved to deer hunt with family and friends, but spending time with his grandchildren were his most treasured moments. Roger was dearly loved and will be truly missed by his family including his children Roger Skadsem Jr., Devils Lake, Rodney (Heather) Skadsem, Warwick and Tami Skadsem, Lakota; grandchildren Sammi Joramo-Rodney Skadsem Jr., Keyaira and Emma Skadsem-Jordan Skadsem, Devin Littlewind and Whitney Littlewind; great granddaughters Bria and Adaliah; siblings Ray Skadsem and Lyle Skadsem both of Devils Lake, David (Laurie) Skadsem, Jamestown ND, Loren (Annie) Skadsem, Binford ND, Sherry Uhlenkamp and Dianne Bachmeier both of Rugby ND, Lori (Greg) Urbach, Lisbon ND; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Patty Skadsem, Judy (Gary) Geske, Nancy Dauphinais, Gloria Kushel, John (Sarah) Kuk and Les (Tammy) Kuk and many nieces and nephews.
