Rose B. Kraft, 89 of Devils Lake formerly of St. Michael, ND passed away on Thursday evening, August 10, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family and Altru Hospice. Rose Barbara, one of twelve children and daughter of George and Mary (Warmsbecker) Bachmeier was born on November 27, 1927 on the family farm at Orrin, North Dakota. She grew up on the farm and attended a one room country school. Helping with the family farm, chores and caring for younger siblings was a responsibility assumed by Rose at a young age. Rose was united in marriage to Louie J. Kraft. They lived, farmed and began their family at St. Michael, later moving to New Rockford and then Crary. In 1965 the family moved to Devils Lake and made it their home for the rest of their lives. Louie passed away on March 17, 1977. Rose was first and foremost a devoted wife and mother. As the children became more independent she worked for a time at Brunswick and Sioux Manufacturing in Fort Totten and later at Wally’s, in the bakery department and for a time at Lake Region Lutheran Home both in Devils Lake. Rose loved cooking meals for her family and watching them enjoy those special dishes she made just for them. Because she always cooked and baked with love, her favorite employment was at the Wally’s Bakery. She spent many hours embroidering dish towels which she gave to family and friends, rarely keeping any for herself, so sometimes she was short of towels in her own kitchen. Rose was an avid gardener, from seeding, to weeding, to harvest and processing and canning the produce. She always made sure there were beautiful flowers in the yard too. In earlier years, Rose would have the best time going fishing with her grandson Jason, son Don and special friend Leo. In later years, Rose so enjoyed bird watching from her chair indoors and outdoors. Rose treasured every moment with her family. She loved babysitting for her grandchildren. She always said, “They have taught me so much”. She never realized how much she taught them! Rose had many special friends in her life including Leo Weber who passed away in February of this year and her still dearest friend Catherine Weber. She so looked forward to coffee, cake and conversation whenever they would get together. Rose’s loving family include her children and spouses Jim and Marcia Kraft, Bob and Debby Kraft all of St. Michael, Tom and Sue Kraft, Fort Lupton, CO, Kaye and Greg Schwab, Devils Lake and Don and Diane Kraft, Madison, WI; thirteen grandchildren Jamie (Heidi) Kraft, Jason (Danielle) Kraft, Scott (Nicole) Schwab, Timber (Amber) Schwab, Josh (Kara) Kraft, Nick Kraft, Jaqe (Laura) Kraft, Jon (Chris) Kraft, JoAnne (Casey) Gust, Heidi (Jon) Becker, Mandy Kraft, Amber Kraft and Jen (Everett) Matelski; thirty great grandchildren; siblings Helen Christianson, New Rockford, ND, twins Frances Hammer, Jamestown, ND and Frank Bachmeier, New Rockford, ND, Mary Nokleby (Milton) also of New Rockford and Eleanor Knoll, Harvey, ND; many nieces and nephews and their families; special friends her QSP in-home helpers Misty, Lori, Amanda G., Karen, Amanda S., Shelly, Coral, Val and Joyce.
