On January 31, 2018, Ruth A. Nygaard went to be with Our Lord and Savior. She joined her husband Glenn, parents, great granddaughter, family and friends. Ruth Adeline Erickstad was born August 8, 1922, to Ole and Anna Erickstad on a farm in Sullivan Township. She attended grammar school at Sullivan Rural for six years and graduated from Starkweather Public School in 1940. She attended nurses training for a short time at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. Ruth went to California and worked at Bendix Aircraft until her marriage to Glenn Nygaard May 6, 1943, in Deming, New Mexico where Glenn was stationed in the Army Air Force. They made their home in California for a few years where their two oldest children were born. They moved to Starkweather, ND to farm the homestead of Ruth's parents in the early 50's. In 1975, they moved to Devils Lake. Ruth lived in Devils Lake until May of 2017 and then moved to Morningstar Memory Care in Colorado Springs to be closer to family. Ruth was active in her church, church choir, Sunday School, ladies aid. She was a member of the Rebekahs, Sons of Norway, and the Elkettes. She was a great seamstress, quilter, and so talented at rosemalling. She made many beautiful afghans and quilts, making sure that all family received them. Ruth is survived by son, Ron (Vickie) Nygaard, San Tan Valley, AZ; daughter, Bonnie (Larry) Doll, Yuma, AZ and son, Dale (Gina) Nygaard, Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren Jonathan (Steph) Deitz, Brian (Carrie) Nygaard, Lisa Holden, Michelle (Kevin) Lund, Matthew Nygaard, Luke (Andie) Nygaard, Darren Nygaard and Jonathan Nygaard and 12 great grandchildren Koleman, Kelson, Eli, Milena, Jonny, Jorge, Josiah, Jack, Lake, MaryJane, Tucker and Zoe. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, parents, great grandchild, Leah Lund, and sisters Elsie Olson and Ilene Hall and many family and friends. Funeral Services for Ruth will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake, ND with Reverend Robert Buechler officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starkweather in the spring. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service.
