Sammy Christine (BullHead) Small, “Maĥpiya  Etĥaniŋsni  Máni” (Walks Amongst the Clouds Woman) 35 of Portland, ND formerly of the Fort Yates/McLaughlin area began her journey to the Spirit world on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at her home in the loving care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Active Pallbearers are Junior Zapata, Thomas BullHead Jr., Kris White, Derris Jackson, Saul BullHead and Francis BullHead Honorary Bearers are Red River Valley Hospice Team, Altru Hospital Staff of Grand Forks, all the nurses who took the time to help comfort Sammy, Sanford Home Care, City of Portland Residents, Michael Garreaux and Maurice Garreaux, brothers who grew up with Sammy and her brothers, Kateri BullHead and family, Amorette and family, her in-laws Margaret and Ronald Small, Charlene BlackBird and Joel’s twin sister Joleen Small, Pastor Larry Thiele from Dakotah Oyate Church who presided over Joel and Sammy’s wedding, Memoree LaCompte, childhood friend; Felicia DeMarce, Loretta DuBois, Shannon Hague, Kenny BullHead and Family, Bethany, Jana and Chasten BullHead, Thalia, Taylor and Sarah FlyingHorse, All of Sammy’s Family from Idaho and New Mexico and those who have become friends recently.  Sammy Christine, daughter of Bev (Wounded) and Thomas BullHead Sr. was born July 13, 1981 at Fort Yates, ND and lived on Standing Rock in her younger years. She attended McLaughlin and Fort Yates Head Start, grade school at Fort Yates Public School and high school at Century High in Bismarck, ND.  She met Joel Small on the world-wide web and they became one in marriage on January 11, 2014. Sammy loved her family, both her father’s side and her mother’s side. She will be missed by all her old friends as well as her new friends.  She loved buying her beaded earrings, travelling, eating out and buying things for the nieces and nephews.  She loved her family from Pine Ridge Reservation, especially her Unci (grandmother) Josephine Fast Wolf from the Red Shirt Table and the support she received from her auntie Arlene Hawk and Lucille Weasel Bear Families.  She had a life-time of fun with Kateri BullHead and Hunka brother Junior Zapata in Portland.  She is survived by her husband Joel Small; parents Beverley (Wounded) and Thomas A. BullHead Sr. of Red Shirt Table; sister Elizabeth Luta BullHead; brother Thomas A. (Alycia A. YellowEyes) BullHead; nieces Lariah A. BullHead and Ellys G. WhiteEagle and brothers Saul R. BullHead and Francis C. BullHead. Sammy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Morris and Mattie Wounded; paternal grandparents Xavier and Elizabeth BullHead; auntie Velia Salis and cousin Dakota Winter Flying Horse.   The Wake for Sammy will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church, rural Tokio with Reverend Larry Thiele officiating. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church with burial in Bdecan Lutheran Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Tokio. Sammy is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake
