Shirley E. Anderson

Shirley Eleanor Anderson, age 97, of Warwick, ND died Sunday November 7th, in New Rockford, North Dakota.

Shirley Anderson, daughter of Carl and Marie Muske, (Faimon), was born on October 13, 1924, on their family farm in Dickey, North Dakota.   Shirley graduated from Dickey High School in 1943.  Shirley then attended the University of North Dakota where she studied Education and graduated in 1947.

Shirley began her teaching career in Wibaux, Montana and later taught in Henning Minnesota where she met Lee Anderson, whom she married on October 2nd, 1949, in Grand Forks, ND.

Shirley and Lee settled in Warwick, ND, where they began farming on the Anderson family farm with Lee’s father, Herman, and brother, Willard.   In 1953, during the Korean War, Lee was recalled to active duty in the Air Force.  Together, they moved first to Mountain Home, Idaho and later to Anchorage, Alaska.  When Lee was honorably discharged in December 1955, they returned to Warwick to farm and raise their family.

Shirley and Lee built their home in Warwick and expanded the original farm.  Along with farming, Shirley was an active parent at the Warwick and Devils Lake schools and a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Devils Lake, ND.

At home, Shirley enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and was known for her delicious cooking, including freshly baked bread, pies, cookies and a variety of traditional Christmas treats.   In the summer, Shirley canned and preserved a variety of fruits, vegetables and jams.   Shirley always had a pot of fresh coffee and something to eat for anyone who stopped by the farm.

When Shirley was not busy in the garden or the kitchen, she enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives and spending time outdoors, camping, hiking and fishing.   Shirley also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was an avid supporter of their many activities including: scouting, 4-H, and a variety of sports and hobbies.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Travis (Karen) Anderson of Warwick, North Dakota, and Trent (Philine) Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandsons; Aaron, Casey, Kai and Angus; and one great grandson; Christian.  Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Lee, her parents, three brothers; Oscar, Gene, and Duane, two sisters; Vera Derheim and Aurora Feldt.
