Shirley L. Ray, 81 a long time Devils Lake business owner, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.  Funeral Services for Shirley will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake, with Reverend Lori Broschat officiating.  Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Shirley Lucille, daughter of George and Lavina (Schill) Kueneman was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on March 6, 1936. At a young age the family moved to North Dakota, where she grew up and was educated. Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Ray on March 16, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their daughter. Shirley and Bob were local entrepreneurs, owning and operating several downtown stores, including “The Little Place”, “The Bridal Shop” and the longest running business, “Ray’s Bootery” working there until they retired. Shirley loved the community of Devils Lake and enjoyed being a part of the many activities and organizations of the Lake Region area. Shirley is survived by her husband Robert; daughter Sue of Albuquerque, New Mexico; five grandchildren Craig (Mandy) Thomas of Devils Lake, Jamie (Art) Lewin, Beverly Hills, CA, Jeremiah Ray, Christopher Ray and Heather Lehnen, Albuquerque, NM; great grandchildren Braxton and Jace; sisters Catherine Weber, Devils Lake and Rita Senger, Bismarck, ND; brother Robert “Bob” (Clarice) Kueneman, Devils Lake; sisters-in-law Anna Kueneman, Bullhead City, AZ, Arlene Loken, Fort Collins, CO and Agnes Ray, Birch Tree, MO and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Frank, Harold, George, Richard, Joseph and James Kueneman; sister Mary in infancy; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Zella Kueneman, Bonnie Kueneman, Gordon Ray, Matt Weber, Donnie Senger and Carol and Lester Peterson.
